Allow custom metadata in domain configuration XML Applications can now insert custom nodes and hierarchies into domain configuration XML. Although currently not enforced, applications are required to use their own namespaces on every custom node they insert, with only one top-level element per namespace.

snapshot: new XML for external system checkpoint Each <domainsnapshot> can now contain an optional <memory> element that describes how the VM state was handled, similar to disk snapshots. The new element will always appear in output; for back-compat, an input that lacks the element will assume 'no' or 'internal' according to the domain state. Along with this change, it is now possible to pass <disks> in the XML for an offline snapshot; this also needs to be wired up in a future patch, to make it possible to choose internal vs. external on a per-disk basis for each disk in an offline domain. At that point, using the --disk-only flag for an offline domain will be able to work. For some examples below, remember that qemu supports the following snapshot actions: qemu-img: offline external and internal disk savevm: online internal VM and disk migrate: online external VM transaction: online external disk ===== <domainsnapshot> <memory snapshot='no'/> ... </domainsnapshot> implies that there is no VM state saved (mandatory for offline and disk-only snapshots, not possible otherwise); using qemu-img for offline domains and transaction for online. ===== <domainsnapshot> <memory snapshot='internal'/> ... </domainsnapshot> state is saved inside one of the disks (as in qemu's 'savevm' system checkpoint implementation). xml: output memory unit for clarity Make it obvious to 'dumpxml' readers what unit we are using, since our default of KiB for memory (1024) differs from qemu's default of MiB; and differs from our use of bytes for storage. qemu: Support numad numad is an user-level daemon that monitors NUMA topology and processes resource consumption to facilitate good NUMA resource alignment of applications/virtual machines to improve performance and minimize cost of remote memory latencies. It provides a pre-placement advisory interface, so significant processes can be pre-bound to nodes with sufficient available resources. More details: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/numad "numad -w ncpus:memory_amount" is the advisory interface numad provides currently. This patch add the support by introducing a new XML attribute for <vcpu>. e.g. <vcpu placement="auto">4</vcpu> <vcpu placement="static" cpuset="1-10^6">4</vcpu> The returned advisory nodeset from numad will be printed in domain's dumped XML. e.g. <vcpu placement="auto" cpuset="1-10^6">4</vcpu> If placement is "auto", the number of vcpus and the current memory amount specified in domain XML will be used for numad command line (numad uses MB for memory amount): numad -w $num_of_vcpus:$current_memory_amount / 1024 The advisory nodeset returned from numad will be used to set domain process CPU affinity then. (e.g. qemuProcessInitCpuAffinity). If the user specifies both CPU affinity policy (e.g. (<vcpu cpuset="1-10,^7,^8">4</vcpu>) and placement == "auto" the specified CPU affinity will be overridden. Only QEMU/KVM drivers support it now. See docs update in patch for more details.

tests: unify qemu binary paths for all qemu related tests Our test data used a lot of different qemu binary paths and some of them were based on downstream systems. The code diff isn't clear, but all that code is just inindented with no other change. Test cases that hit qemuDomainAssignAddresses but don't have infrastructure for specifying qemuCaps values see lots of churn, since now PCI addresses are in the XML output.

qemu: auto-add pci-root controller for pc machine types <controller type='pci' index='0' model='pci-root'/> is auto-added to pc* machine types. Without this controller PCI bus 0 is not available and no PCI addresses are assigned by default. Since older libvirt supported PCI bus 0 even without this controller, it is removed from the XML when migrating.

device: cleanup input device code The current code was a little bit odd. At first we've removed all possible implicit input devices from domain definition to add them later back if there was any graphics device defined while parsing XML description. That's not all, while formating domain definition to XML description we at first ignore any input devices with bus different to USB and VIRTIO and few lines later we add implicit input devices to XML. This seems to me as a lot of code for nothing. This patch may look to be more complicated than original approach, but this is a preferred way to modify/add driver specific stuff only in those drivers and not deal with them in common parsing/formating functions. The update is to add those implicit input devices into config XML to follow the real HW configuration visible by guest OS. There was also inconsistence between our behavior and QEMU's in the way, that in QEMU there is no way how to disable those implicit input devices for x86 architecture and they are available always, even without graphics device. This applies also to XEN hypervisor. VZ driver already does its part by putting correct implicit devices into live XML. Signed-off-by: Pavel Hrdina <phrdina@redhat.com>
