8ee8f0f828 rpc: securely erase the message buffers
While only a couple of the message types include sensitive data,
the overhead of calling secure erase is not noticable enough
to worry about making the erasure selective per type. Thus it is
simplest to unconditionally securely erase the buffer.

8868cb2f7c rpc: fix buffer offset updates after decoding payload
The buffer length refers to the allocated buffer memory size,
while the offset refers to have much of the buffer we have
read/written. After reading the message payload we must thus
update the latter.

9a86592c4e virNetMessageEncodePayloadRaw: Tolerate empty 'data'
'virNetMessageEncodePayloadRaw' is not supposed to be called with 'NULL'
data, but the code path from 'virNetClientStreamSendPacket' does so.

Now 'virNetMessageEncodePayloadEmpty' is intended for such case, but
since it's just a sub-set of steps from 'virNetMessageEncodePayloadRaw'
it's more straightforward to add NULL-tolerance to 'virNetMessageEncodePayloadRaw'
and subsequently remove 'virNetMessageEncodePayloadEmpty'.

7cfbfe66fc virnetmessage: Introduce virNetMessageClearFDs
The helper splits out the clearing of the FDs transacted inside a
virNetMessage.

APIs transacting FDs both from and to the client at the same time will
need to clear the FDs stored in virNetMessage as the structure is
re-used for the reply and without clearing the list of FDs we'd return
the FDs sent by the client in addition to the new FDs sent by the API.t

98f6f2081d util: alloc: Reimplement VIR_APPEND_ELEMENT using virAppendElement
Use virAppendElement instead of virInsertElementsN to implement
VIR_APPEND_ELEMENT which allows us to remove error handling as the
only relevant errors were removed when switching to aborting memory
allocation functions.

c8238579fb lib: Drop internal virXXXPtr typedefs
Historically, we declared pointer type to our types:

  typedef struct _virXXX virXXX;
  typedef virXXX *virXXXPtr;

But usefulness of such declaration is questionable, at best.
Unfortunately, we can't drop every such declaration - we have to
carry some over, because they are part of public API (e.g.
virDomainPtr). But for internal types - we can do drop them and
use what every other C project uses 'virXXX *'.

This change was generated by a very ugly shell script that
generated sed script which was then called over each file in the
repository. For the shell script refer to the cover letter:

5165ff0971 src: More cleanup of some system headers already contained in internal.h
All of the ones being removed are pulled in by internal.h. The only
exception is sanlock which expects the application to include <stdint.h>
before sanlock's headers, because sanlock prototypes use fixed width
int, but they don't include stdint.h themselves, so we have to leave
that one in place.

5c52aed174 rpc: for messages with FDs always decode count of FDs from the message
The packet with passed FD has the following format:

    --------------------------
    | len | header | payload |
    --------------------------

where "payload" has an additional count of FDs before the actual data:

    ------------------
    | nfds | payload |
    ------------------

When the packet is received we parse the "header", which as a side
effect updates msg->bufferOffset to point to the beginning of "payload".
If the message call contains FDs, we need to also parse the count of
FDs, which also updates the msg->bufferOffset.

The issue here is that when we attempt to read the FDs data from the
socket and we receive EAGAIN we finish the reading and call poll()
to wait for the data the we need.  When the data arrives we already have
the packet in our buffer so we read the "header" again but this time
we don't read the count of FDs because we already have it stored.

That means that the msg->bufferOffset is not updated to point to the
actual beginning of the payload data, but it points to the count of
FDs.  After all FDs are processed we dispatch the message to process
it and decode the payload.  Since the msg->bufferOffset points to wrong
data, we decode the wrong payload and the API call fails with
error messages:

    Domain not found: no domain with matching uuid '67656e65-7269-6300-0c87-5003ca6941f2' ()

Broken by commit 133c511b52 which fixed a FD and memory leak.

b088f85d42 rpc: Double buffer size instead of quadrupling buffer size.
When increasing the buffer size up to VIR_NET_MESSAGE_MAX, we
currently quadruple it each time.  This unfortunately means that we
cannot allow certain buffer sizes -- for example the current
VIR_NET_MESSAGE_MAX == 33554432 can never be "hit" since ‘newlen’
jumps from 16MB to 64MB.

Instead of quadrupling, double it each time.

b6238738ea rpc: use virNetMessageClearPayload in client
This removes the opencoded payload freeing in the client, to use
the shared virNetMessageClearPayload call. Two changes:

- ClearPayload sets nfds=0, which fixes a potential crash if
  an error path called virNetMessageFree/Clear on the message
  after fds was free'd
- We drop the inner loop VIR_FORCE_CLOSE... this may mean fds are
  kept open a little bit longer if the call is blocking but in
  practice I don't think it will have any effect

2835c1e730 Add virLogSource variables to all source files
Any source file which calls the logging APIs now needs
to have a VIR_LOG_INIT("source.name") declaration at
the start of the file. This provides a static variable
of the virLogSource type.

9fa3a8ab6f MacOS: Handle changes to xdrproc_t definition
With Mac OS X 10.9, xdrproc_t is no longer defined as:

typedef bool_t (*xdrproc_t)(XDR *, ...);

but instead as:

typdef bool_t (*xdrproc_t)(XDR *, void *, unsigned int);

For reference, Linux systems typically define it as:

typedef bool_t (*xdrproc_t)(XDR *, void *, ...);

The rationale explained in the header is that using a vararg is
incorrect and has a potential to change the ABI slightly do to compiler
optimizations taken and the undefined behavior. They decided
to specify the exact number of parameters and for compatibility with old
code decided to make the signature require 3 arguments. The third
argument is ignored for cases that its not used and its recommended to
supply a 0.

e914dcfdaa rpc: message related sizes enlarged
We have seen an issue on s390x platform where domain XMLs larger than 1MB
were used. The define command was finished successfully. The dumpxml command
was not successful (i.e. could not encode message payload).

Enlarged message related sizes (e.g. maximum string size, message size, etc.)
to handle larger system configurations used on s390x platform.

To improve handling of the RPC message size the allocation during encode process
is changed to a dynamic one (i.e. starting with 64kB initial size and increasing
that size in steps up to 16MB if the payload data is larger).

f9ce7dad60 Desert the FSF address in copyright
Per the FSF address could be changed from time to time, and GNU
recommends the following now: (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.html)

  You should have received a copy of the GNU General Public License
  along with Foobar.  If not, see <http://www.gnu.org/licenses/>.

This patch removes the explicit FSF address, and uses above instead
(of course, with inserting 'Lesser' before 'General').

Except a bunch of files for security driver, all others are changed
automatically, the copyright for securify files are not complete,
that's why to do it manually:

My latest patch for RPC rework (a2c304f687) introduced a memory leak.
virNetMessageEncodeHeader() is calling VIR_ALLOC_N(msg->buffer, ...)
despite fact, that msg->buffer isn't VIR_FREE()'d on all paths calling
the function. Therefore, rather than injecting free statement switch to
VIR_REALLOC_N().

a2c304f687 rpc: Switch to dynamically allocated message buffer
Currently, we are allocating buffer for RPC messages statically.
This is not such pain when RPC limits are small. However, if we want
ever to increase those limits, we need to allocate buffer dynamically,
based on RPC message len (= the first 4 bytes). Therefore we will
decrease our mem usage in most cases and still be flexible enough in
corner cases.

a7cfd709f4 build: prohibit raw malloc and free
Our HACKING discourages use of malloc and free, for at least
a couple of years now.  But we weren't enforcing it, until now :)

For now, I've exempted python and tests, and will clean those up
in subsequent patches.  Examples should be permanently exempt,
since anyone copying our examples won't have use of our
internal-only memory.h via libvirt_util.la.

* cfg.mk (sc_prohibit_raw_allocation): New rule.
(exclude_file_name_regexp--sc_prohibit_raw_allocation): and
exemptions.
* src/cpu/cpu.c (cpuDataFree): Avoid false positive.
* src/conf/network_conf.c (virNetworkDNSSrvDefParseXML): Fix
offenders.

b0f996a6b1 Extend RPC protocol to allow FD passing
Define two new RPC message types VIR_NET_CALL_WITH_FDS and
VIR_NET_REPLY_WITH_FDS. These message types are equivalent
to VIR_NET_CALL and VIR_NET_REPLY, except that between the
message header, and payload there is a 32-bit integer field
specifying how many file descriptors have been passed.

The actual file descriptors are sent/recv'd out of band.

b3fb288e52 Fix tracking of RPC messages wrt streams
Commit 2c85644b0b attempted to
fix a problem with tracking RPC messages from streams by doing

                 client->nrequests--;

In other words any stream packet, with status NET_OK or NET_ERROR
would cause nrequests to be decremented. This is great if the
packet from from a synchronous virStreamFinish or virStreamAbort
API call, but wildly wrong if from a server initiated abort.
The latter resulted in 'nrequests' being decremented below zero.
This then causes all I/O for that client to be stopped.

Instead of trying to infer whether we need to decrement the
nrequests field, from the message type/status, introduce an
explicit 'bool tracked' field to mark whether the virNetMessagePtr
object is subject to tracking.

Also add a virNetMessageClear function to allow a message
contents to be cleared out, without adversely impacting the
'tracked' field as a naive memset() would do

  a 'bool tracked' field and virNetMessageClear() API
* daemon/remote.c, daemon/stream.c, src/rpc/virnetclientprogram.c,

  src/rpc/virnetserverprogram.c: Switch over to use
  virNetMessageClear() and pass in the 'bool tracked' value
  when creating messages.
