Libvirt provides a portable, long term stable C API for managing the
virtualization technologies provided by many operating systems. It
includes support for QEMU, KVM, Xen, LXC, bhyve, Virtuozzo, VMware
vCenter and ESX, VMware Desktop, Hyper-V, VirtualBox and the POWER
Hypervisor.

Right now, virStorageFileMetadata tracks bool backingStoreIsFile for whether the backing string specified in metadata can be resolved as a file (covering both block and regular file resources) or is treated as a network protocol. But when merging this struct with virStorageSource, it will be easier to just actually track which type of resource it is, as well as have a reserved value for the case where the resource type is unknown (or had an error during probing). * src/util/virstoragefile.h (virStorageType): Add a placeholder value, swap order to match similar public enum. * src/util/virstoragefile.c (virStorage): Update string mapping. * src/conf/domain_conf.c (virDomainDiskSourceParse) (virDomainDiskDefParseXML, virDomainDiskDefFormat) (virDomainDiskSourceFormat): Adjust clients. * src/conf/snapshot_conf.c (virDomainSnapshotDiskDefParseXML): Likewise. * src/qemu/qemu_driver.c (qemuDomainSnapshotPrepareDiskExternalBackingInactive) (qemuDomainSnapshotPrepareDiskExternalOverlayActive) (qemuDomainSnapshotPrepareDiskExternalOverlayInactive) (qemuDomainSnapshotPrepareDiskInternal) (qemuDomainSnapshotCreateSingleDiskActive): Likewise. * src/qemu/qemu_command.c (qemuGetDriveSourceString): Likewise. LibVirt : simple API for virtualization Libvirt is a C toolkit to interact with the virtualization capabilities of recent versions of Linux (and other OSes). It is free software available under the GNU Lesser General Public License. Virtualization of the Linux Operating System means the ability to run multiple instances of Operating Systems concurrently on a single hardware system where the basic resources are driven by a Linux instance. The library aim at providing long term stable C API initially for the Xen paravirtualization but should be able to integrate other virtualization mechanisms if needed.
