The combination of explicit firmware paths, which we now produce in all cases, and firmware autoselection knobs is explicitly rejected by libvirt 8.6.0 and newer. Right now we produce inherently migratable XML in all cases, since we always strip those bits, but that's going to change soon. To prepare for that, make sure that we always skip the problematic elements and attributes when preparing a migratable XML. The destination will simply receive a fully specified firmware configuration, which is indistinguishable from one that was manually provided by the user and is thus accepted by any old version of libvirt, regardless of whether or not firmware autoselection was used on the source host. Libvirt API for virtualization
Libvirt provides a portable, long term stable C API for managing the virtualization technologies provided by many operating systems. It includes support for QEMU, KVM, Xen, LXC, bhyve, Virtuozzo, VMware vCenter and ESX, VMware Desktop, Hyper-V, VirtualBox and the POWER Hypervisor.
For some of these hypervisors, it provides a stateful management daemon which runs on the virtualization host allowing access to the API both by non-privileged local users and remote users.
Layered packages provide bindings of the libvirt C API into other languages including Python, Perl, PHP, Go, Java, OCaml, as well as mappings into object systems such as GObject, CIM and SNMP.
