396ca36cb0 qemu: Enforce ACPI, UEFI requirements
Depending on the architecture, requirements for ACPI and UEFI can
be different; more specifically, while on x86 UEFI requires ACPI,
on aarch64 it's the other way around.

Enforce these requirements when validating the domain, and make
the error message more accurate by mentioning that they're not
necessarily applicable to all architectures.

Several aarch64 test cases had to be tweaked because they would
have failed the validation step otherwise.

1f7661af8c qemu: Remove qemuDomainRequiresMemLock()
Instead of having a separate function, we can simply return
zero from the existing qemuDomainGetMemLockLimitBytes() to
signal the caller that the memory locking limit doesn't need
to be set for the guest.

Having a single function instead of two makes it less likely
that we will use the wrong value, which is exactly what
happened when we started applying the limit that was meant
for VFIO-using guests to <memoryBacking><locked>-using
guests.

7373c4e48f qemu: Add support for setting TSC frequency
QEMU allows for TSC frequency to be explicitly set to enable migration
with invtsc (migration fails if the destination QEMU cannot set the
exact same frequency used when starting the domain on the source host).

Libvirt already supports setting the TSC frequency in the XML using

    <clock>
      <timer name='tsc' frequency='1234567890'/>
    </clock>

which will be transformed into

    -cpu Model,tsc-frequency=1234567890

QEMU command line.

So, majority of the code is just ready as-is. Well, with one
slight change: differentiate between dimm and nvdimm in places

Speaking of the command line, we also need to append 'nvdimm=on'
to the '-machine' argument so that the nvdimm feature is
advertised in the ACPI tables properly.

b4e8a49f8d Introduce NVDIMM memory model
NVDIMM is new type of memory introduced into QEMU 2.6. The idea
is that we have a Non-Volatile memory module that keeps the data
persistent across domain reboots.

At the domain XML level, we already have some representation of
'dimm' modules. Long story short, NVDIMM will utilize the
existing <memory/> element that lives under <devices/> by adding
a new attribute 'nvdimm' to the existing @model and introduce a
new <path/> element for <source/> while reusing other fields. The
resulting XML would appear as:

    <memory model='nvdimm'>
      <source>
        <path>/tmp/nvdimm</path>
      </source>
      <target>
        <size unit='KiB'>523264</size>
        <node>0</node>
      </target>
      <address type='dimm' slot='0'/>
    </memory>

So far, this is just a XML parser/formatter extension. QEMU
driver implementation is in the next commit.

215a8a9764 qemu: command: Truncate the chardev logging file even if append is not present
Our documentation states that the chardev logging file is truncated
unless append='on' is specified. QEMU also behaves the same way and
truncates the file unless we provide the argument. The new virlogd
implementation did not honor if the argument was missing and continued
to append to the file.

Truncate the file even when the 'append' attribute is not present to
behave the same with both implementations and adhere to the docs.

011d546504 qemu: Allow multiple bridges when pci-bridges is not available
qemuDomainAssignPCIAddresses() hardcoded the assumption
that the only way to support devices on a non-zero bus is
to add one or more pci-bridges; however, since we now
support a large selection of PCI controllers that can be
used instead, the assumption is no longer true.

Moreover, this check was always redundant, because the
only sensible time to check for the availability of
pci-bridge is when building the QEMU command line, and
such a check is of course already in place.

In fact, there were *two* such checks, but since one of
the two was relying on the incorrect assumption explained
above, and it was redundant anyway, it has been dropped.

2841e6756d qemu: propagate bridge MTU into qemu "host_mtu" option
libvirt was able to set the host_mtu option when an MTU was explicitly
given in the interface config (with <mtu size='n'/>), set the MTU of a
libvirt network in the network config (with the same named
subelement), and would automatically set the MTU of any tap device to
the MTU of the network.

This patch ties that all together (for networks based on tap devices
and either Linux host bridges or OVS bridges) by learning the MTU of
the network (i.e. the bridge) during qemuInterfaceBridgeConnect(), and
returning that value so that it can then be passed to
qemuBuildNicDevStr(); qemuBuildNicDevStr() then sets host_mtu in the
interface's commandline options.

The result is that a higher MTU for all guests connecting to a
particular network will be plumbed top to bottom by simply changing
the MTU of the network (in libvirt's config for libvirt-managed
networks, or directly on the bridge device for simple host bridges or
OVS bridges managed outside of libvirt).

One question I have about this - it occurred to me that in the case of
migrating a guest from a host with an older libvirt to one with a
newer libvirt, the guest may have *not* had the host_mtu option on the
older machine, but *will* have it on the newer machine. I'm curious if
this could lead to incompatibilities between source and destination (I
guess it all depends on whether or not the setting of host_mtu has a
practical effect on a guest that is already running - Maxime?)

Likewise, we could run into problems when migrating from a newer
libvirt to older libvirt - The guest would have been told of the
higher MTU on the newer libvirt, then migrated to a host that didn't
understand <mtu size='blah'/>. (If this really is a problem, it would
be a problem with or without the current patch).

f55afd83b1 qemu: Create hugepage path on per domain basis
If you've ever tried running a huge page backed guest under

Our only option there would be to set 0777 mode on the qemu dir

c70c56ded0 qemuBuildHostNetStr: use type_sep earlier
When hotplugging networks with ancient QEMUs not supporting
QEMU_CAPS_NETDEV, we use space instead of a comma as the separator
between the network type and other options.

Except for "user", all the network types pass other options
and use up the first separator by the time we get to the section
that adds the alias (or vlan for QEMUs without CAPS_NETDEV).

Since the alias/vlan is mandatory, convert all preceding code to add
the separator at the end, removing the need to rewrite type_sep for
all types but NET_TYPE_USER.

df93b5f5f5 qemu: always generate the same alias for tls-creds-x509 object
There was inconsistency between alias used to create tls-creds-x509
object and alias used to link that object to chardev while hotpluging.
Hotplug ends with this error:

  error: Failed to detach device from channel-tcp.xml
  error: internal error: unable to execute QEMU command 'chardev-add':
  No TLS credentials with id 'objcharchannel3_tls0'

In XML we have for example alias "serial0", but on qemu command line we
generate "charserial0".

The issue was that code, that creates QMP command to hotplug chardev
devices uses only the second alias "charserial0" and that alias is also
used to link the tls-creds-x509 object.

This patch unifies the aliases for tls-creds-x509 to be always generated
from "charserial0".

    Use the standard '-device intel-iommu' to create the IOMMU device.

41c2aa729f and yes, we're dealing with

There is a logic in place that if there is no real need for
memory-backend-file, qemuBuildMemoryBackendStr() returns 0.  However
that wasn't the case with hugepage backing. The reason for that was
that we abused the 'pagesize' variable for storing that information, but
we should rather have a separate one that specifies whether we really
need the new object for hugepage backing. And that variable should be
set only if this particular NUMA cell needs special treatment WRT
hugepages.

706b5b6277 qemu: map "virtio" video model to "virt" machtype correctly (arm/aarch64)
Most of QEMU's PCI display device models, such as:

  libvirt video/model/@type  QEMU -device
  -------------------------  ------------
  cirrus                     cirrus-vga
  vga                        VGA
  qxl                        qxl-vga
  virtio                     virtio-vga

come with a linear framebuffer (sometimes called "VGA compatibility
framebuffer"). This linear framebuffer lives in one of the PCI device's
MMIO BARs, and allows guest code (primarily: firmware drivers, and
non-accelerated OS drivers) to display graphics with direct memory access.

Due to architectural reasons on aarch64/KVM hosts, this kind of
framebuffer doesn't / can't work in

  qemu-system-(arm|aarch64) -M virt

machines. Cache coherency issues guarantee a corrupted / unusable display.
The problem has been researched by several people, including kvm-arm
maintainers, and it's been decided that the best way (practically the only
way) to have boot time graphics for such guests is to consolidate on
QEMU's "virtio-gpu-pci" device.

>From <https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1195176>, libvirt
supports

  <devices>
    <video>
      <model type='virtio'/>
    </video>
  </devices>

but libvirt unconditionally maps @type='virtio' to QEMU's "virtio-vga"
device model. (See the qemuBuildDeviceVideoStr() function and the
"qemuDeviceVideo" enum impl.)

According to the above, this is not right for the "virt" machine type; the
qemu-system-(arm|aarch64) binaries don't even recognize the "virtio-vga"
device model (justifiedly). Whereas "virtio-gpu-pci", which is a pure
virtio device without a compatibility framebuffer, is available, and works
fine.

(The ArmVirtQemu ("AAVMF") platform of edk2 -- that is, the UEFI firmware
for "virt" -- supports "virtio-gpu-pci", as of upstream commit
3ef3209d3028. See
<https://tianocore.acgmultimedia.com/show_bug.cgi?id=66>.)

Override the default mapping of "virtio", from "virtio-vga" to
"virtio-gpu-pci", if qemuDomainMachineIsVirt() evaluates to true.

90e178f8bf qemu: allow turning off QEMU guest RAM dump globally
We already have the ability to turn off dumping of guest
RAM via the domain XML. This is not particularly useful
though, as it is under control of the management application.
What is needed is a way for the sysadmin to turn off guest
RAM defaults globally, regardless of whether the mgmt app
provides its own way to set this in the domain XML.

So this adds a 'dump_guest_core' option in /etc/libvirt/qemu.conf
which defaults to false. ie guest RAM will never be included in
the QEMU core dumps by default. This default is different from
historical practice, but is considered to be more suitable as
a default because

 a) guest RAM can be huge and so inflicts a DOS on the host
    I/O subsystem when dumping core for QEMU crashes

 b) guest RAM can contain alot of sensitive data belonging
    to the VM owner. This should not generally be copied
    around inside QEMU core dumps submitted to vendors for
    debugging

 c) guest RAM contents are rarely useful in diagnosing
    QEMU crashes

9eb9106ea5 qemu: command: Add support for sparse vcpu topologies
Add support for using the new approach to hotplug vcpus using device_add
during startup of qemu to allow sparse vcpu topologies.

There are a few limitations imposed by qemu on the supported
configuration:
- vcpu0 needs to be always present and not hotpluggable
- non-hotpluggable cpus need to be ordered at the beginning
- order of the vcpus needs to be unique for every single hotpluggable
  entity

Qemu also doesn't really allow to query the information necessary to
start a VM with the vcpus directly on the commandline. Fortunately they
can be hotplugged during startup.

The new hotplug code uses the following approach:
- non-hotpluggable vcpus are counted and put to the -smp option
- qemu is started
- qemu is queried for the necessary information
- the configuration is checked
- the hotpluggable vcpus are hotplugged
- vcpus are started

This patch adds a lot of checking code and enables the support to
specify the individual vcpu element with qemu.

9c1524a01c qemu: Enable secure boot
In qemu, enabling this feature boils down to adding the following
onto the command line:

  -global driver=cfi.pflash01,property=secure,value=on

However, there are some constraints resulting from the
implementation. For instance, System Management Mode (SMM) is
required to be enabled, the machine type must be q35-2.4 or
later, and the guest should be x86_64. While technically it is
possible to have 32 bit guests with secure boot, some non-trivial
CPU flags tuning is required (for instance lm and nx flags must
be prohibited). Given complexity of our CPU driver, this is not
trivial. Therefore I've chosen to forbid 32 bit guests for now.
If there's ever need, we can refine the check later.

a48c714115 storage: remove "luks" storage volume type
The current LUKS support has a "luks" volume type which has
a "luks" encryption format.

This partially makes sense if you consider the QEMU shorthand
syntax only requires you to specify a format=luks, and it'll
automagically uses "raw" as the next level driver. QEMU will
however let you override the "raw" with any other driver it
supports (vmdk, qcow, rbd, iscsi, etc, etc)

IOW the intention though is that the "luks" encryption format
is applied to all disk formats (whether raw, qcow2, rbd, gluster
or whatever). As such it doesn't make much sense for libvirt
to say the volume type is "luks" - we should be saying that it
is a "raw" file, but with "luks" encryption applied.

IOW, when creating a storage volume we should use this XML

  <volume>
    <name>demo.raw</name>
    <capacity>5368709120</capacity>
    <target>
      <format type='raw'/>
      <encryption format='luks'>
        <secret type='passphrase' uuid='0a81f5b2-8403-7b23-c8d6-21ccd2f80d6f'/>
      </encryption>
    </target>
  </volume>

and when configuring a guest disk we should use

  <disk type='file' device='disk'>
    <driver name='qemu' type='raw'/>
    <source file='/home/berrange/VirtualMachines/demo.raw'/>
    <target dev='sda' bus='scsi'/>
    <encryption format='luks'>
      <secret type='passphrase' uuid='0a81f5b2-8403-7b23-c8d6-21ccd2f80d6f'/>
    </encryption>
  </disk>

This commit thus removes the "luks" storage volume type added
in

  commit 318ebb36f1
  Author: John Ferlan <jferlan@redhat.com>
  Date:   Tue Jun 21 12:59:54 2016 -0400

    util: Add 'luks' to the FileTypeInfo

The storage file probing code is modified so that it can probe
the actual encryption formats explicitly, rather than merely
probing existance of encryption and letting the storage driver
guess the format.

The rest of the code is then adapted to deal with
VIR_STORAGE_FILE_RAW w/ VIR_STORAGE_ENCRYPTION_FORMAT_LUKS
instead of just VIR_STORAGE_FILE_LUKS.

The commit mentioned above was included in libvirt v2.0.0.
So when querying volume XML this will be a change in behaviour
vs the 2.0.0 release - it'll report 'raw' instead of 'luks'
for the volume format, but still report 'luks' for encryption
format. I think this change is OK because the storage driver
did not include any support for creating volumes, nor starting
guets with luks volumes in v2.0.0 - that only since then.
Clearly if we change this we must do it before v2.1.0 though.

c34ada0996 spice: introduce listen type none
This new listen type is currently supported only by spice graphics.
It's introduced to make it easier and clearer specify to not listen
anywhere in order to start a guest with OpenGL support.

The old way to do this was set spice graphics autoport='no' and don't
specify any ports. The new way is to use <listen type='none'/>. In
order to be able to migrate to old libvirt the migratable XML will be
generated without the listen element and with autoport='no'. Also the
old configuration will be automatically converted to the this listen
type.

acc83afe33 vnc: add support for listen type 'socket'
VNC graphics already supports sockets but only via 'socket' attribute.
This patch coverts that attribute into listen type 'socket'.

For backward compatibility we need to handle listen type 'socket' and 'socket'
attribute properly to support old XMLs and new XMLs. If both are provided they
have to match, if only one of them is provided we need to be able to parse that
configuration too.

To not break migration back to old libvirt if the socket is provided by user we
need to generate migratable XML without the listen element and use only 'socket'
attribute.

a1344f70a1 qemu: Utilize qemu secret objects for RBD auth/secret
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1182074

If they're available and we need to pass secrets to qemu, then use the
qemu domain secret object in order to pass the secrets for RBD volumes
instead of passing the base64 encoded secret on the command line.

The goal is to make AES secrets the default and have no user interaction
required in order to allow using the AES mechanism. If the mechanism
is not available, then fall back to the current plain mechanism using
a base64 encoded secret.

New APIs:

qemu_domain.c:
  qemuDomainGetSecretAESAlias:
    Generate/return the secret object alias for an AES Secret Info type.
    This will be called from qemuDomainSecretAESSetup.

  qemuDomainSecretAESSetup: (private)
    This API handles the details of the generation of the AES secret
    and saves the pieces that need to be passed to qemu in order for
    the secret to be decrypted. The encrypted secret based upon the
    domain master key, an initialization vector (16 byte random value),
    and the stored secret. Finally, the requirement from qemu is the IV
    and encrypted secret are to be base64 encoded.

qemu_command.c:
  qemuBuildSecretInfoProps: (private)
    Generate/return a JSON properties object for the AES secret to
    be used by both the command building and eventually the hotplug
    code in order to add the secret object. Code was designed so that
    in the future perhaps hotplug could use it if it made sense.

  qemuBuildObjectSecretCommandLine (private)
    Generate and add to the command line the -object secret for the
    secret. This will be required for the subsequent RBD reference
    to the object.

  qemuBuildDiskSecinfoCommandLine (private)
    Handle adding the AES secret object.

Adjustments:

qemu_domain.c:
  The qemuDomainSecretSetup was altered to call either the AES or Plain
  Setup functions based upon whether AES secrets are possible (we have
  the encryption API) or not, we have secrets, and of course if the
  protocol source is RBD.

qemu_command.c:
  Adjust the qemuBuildRBDSecinfoURI API's in order to generate the
  specific command options for an AES secret, such as:

    -object secret,id=$alias,keyid=$masterKey,data=$base64encodedencrypted,
            format=base64
    -drive file=rbd:pool/image:id=myname:auth_supported=cephx\;none:\
           mon_host=mon1.example.org\:6321,password-secret=$alias,...

  where the 'id=' value is the secret object alias generated by
  concatenating the disk alias and "-aesKey0". The 'keyid= $masterKey'
  is the master key shared with qemu, and the -drive syntax will
  reference that alias as the 'password-secret'. For the -drive
  syntax, the 'id=myname' is kept to define the username, while the
  'key=$base64 encoded secret' is removed.

  While according to the syntax described for qemu commit '60390a21'
  or as seen in the email archive:

    https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/qemu-devel/2016-01/msg04083.html

  it is possible to pass a plaintext password via a file, the qemu
  commit 'ac1d8878' describes the more feature rich 'keyid=' option
  based upon the shared masterKey.

Add tests for checking/comparing output.

NB: For hotplug, since the hotplug code doesn't add command line
    arguments, passing the encoded secret directly to the monitor
    will suffice.

  qemu -device nec-usb-xhci,p2=8,p3=8

Meaning, 8 ports that support both usb2 and usb3 devices. Gerd
suggested to just expose them as one knob.

d855465452 qemu: add panic device support for S390
If a panic device is being defined without a model in a domain
the default value is always overwritten with model ISA. An ISA
bus does not exist on S390 and therefore specifying a panic device
results in an unsupported configuration.
Since the S390 architecture inherently provides a crash detection
capability the panic device should be defined in the domain xml.

This patch adds an s390 panic device model and prevents setting a
device address on it.

d081665045 qemu: Introduce qemuDomainSecretHostdevPrepare and Destroy
Similar to the qemuDomainSecretDiskPrepare, generate the secret
for the Hostdev's prior to call qemuProcessLaunch which calls
qemuBuildCommandLine. Additionally, since the secret is not longer
added as part of building the command, the hotplug code will need
to make the call to add the secret in the hostdevPriv.

Since this then is the last requirement to pass a virConnectPtr
to qemuBuildCommandLine, we now can remove that as part of these
changes. That removal has cascading effects through various callers.

40d8e2ba37 qemu: Introduce qemuDomainSecretPrepare and Destroy
Rather than needing to pass the conn parameter to various command
line building API's, add qemuDomainSecretPrepare just prior to the
qemuProcessLaunch which calls qemuBuilCommandLine. The function
must be called after qemuProcessPrepareHost since it's expected
to eventually need the domain masterKey generated during the prepare
host call. Additionally, future patches may require device aliases
(assigned during the prepare domain call) in order to associate
the secret objects.

The qemuDomainSecretDestroy is called after the qemuProcessLaunch
finishes in order to clear and free memory used by the secrets
that were recently prepared, so they are not kept around in memory
too long.

Placing the setup here is beneficial for future patches which will
need the domain masterKey in order to generate an encrypted secret
along with an initialization vector to be saved and passed (since
the masterKey shouldn't be passed around).

Finally, since the secret is not added during command line build,
the hotplug code will need to get the secret into the private disk data.

55320c23dd qemu: Regenerate VNC socket paths
Similarly to what commit 7140807917 did with some internal paths,
clear vnc socket paths that were generated by us. Having such path in
the definition can cause trouble when restoring the domain. The path is
generated to the per-domain directory that contains the domain ID.
However, that ID will be different upon restoration, so qemu won't be
able to create that socket because the directory will not be prepared.

To be able to migrate to older libvirt, skip formatting the socket path
in migratable XML if it was autogenerated. And mark it as autogenerated
if it already exists and we're parsing live XML.

The values are currently limited to LLONG_MAX which causes some
problems. QEMU conveniently changed their maximum to 1e15 (1 PB) which
is enough for some time and we need to adapt to that so that we don't

fixes some corner case values (off-by-one checks in QEMU probably).

Since values out of the new specified range do not overflow anything,

- Hyper-V "runtime" enlightement feature allows to use MSR
HV_X64_MSR_VP_RUNTIME to get the time the virtual processor consumes
running guest code, as well as the time the hypervisor spends running
code on behalf of that guest.

- Hyper-V "synic" stands for Synthetic Interrupt Controller, which is
lapic extension controlled via MSRs.

- Hyper-V "stimer" switches on Hyper-V SynIC timers MSR's support.
Guest can setup and use fired by host events (SynIC interrupt and
appropriate timer expiration message) as guest clock events

- Hyper-V "reset" allows guest to reset VM.

Although the original code would reset the filter on command creation
errors after building the network command portion and commit 'ef2ab8fd'
altered that logic, the teardown is called during qemuProcessStop from
virDomainConfVMNWFilterTeardown and that code has the save/restore
last error logic, so just allow that code to handle the teardown rather
than running it twice. The qemuProcessStop would be called in the failure

3dbc2a149f qemu: Introduce qemuBuildFSDevCommandLine
Add new function to manage adding the -fsdev options to the
command line removing that task from the mainline qemuBuildCommandLine.
Alter the code slightly to perform the !caps and fsdev failure check
up front.

Since both qemuBuildFSStr and qemuBuildFSDevStr are local, make them
static and fix their prototypes to use the const virDomainDef as well.
Make some minor formatting changes for long lines.

fcd3fa385f qemu: support use of virtlogd with file based chardevs
Currently the file based character devices let QEMU write
directly to a file on disk. This allows a malicious QEMU
to inflict a denial of service by consuming all free space.

Switch QEMU to use a pipe to virtlogd, which will enforce
file rollover.

b4a5fd95f7 qemu: introduce vram64 attribute for QXL video device
This attribute is used to extend secondary PCI bar and expose it to the
guest as 64bit memory. It works like this: attribute vram is there to
set size of secondary PCI bar and guest sees it as 32bit memory,
attribute vram64 can extend this secondary PCI bar. If both attributes
are used, guest sees two memory bars, both address the same memory, with
the difference that the 32bit bar can address only the first part of the
whole memory.

a89f05ba8d qemu: Shorten per-domain directory names
Per-domain directories were introduced in order to be able to
completely separate security labels for each domain (commit
f1f68ca334).  However when the domain
name is long (let's say a ridiculous 110 characters), we cannot
connect to the monitor socket because on length of UNIX socket address
is limited. In order to get around this, let's shorten it in similar
fashion and in order to avoid conflicts, throw in an ID there as well.
Also save that into the status XML and load the old status XMLs
properly (to clean up after older domains). That way we can change it
in the future.

The shortening can be seen in qemuxml2argv tests, for example in the
hugepages-pages2 case.

01c3185298 qemuBuildCommandLine: Change the condition for -nographics
There's this check when building command line that whenever
domain has no graphics card configured we put -nographics onto
qemu command line. The check is 'if (!def->graphics)'. This
makes coverity think that def->graphics can be NULL, which is
true. But later in the code every access to def->graphics is
guarded by check for def->ngraphics, so no crash occurs. But this
is something that coverity fails to deduct.
In order to shut coverity up lets change the condition to
'if (!def->ngraphics)'.
