The virDomainGenerateMachineName() function doesn't belong in
src/conf/ really, because it has nothing to do with domain XML
parsing. It landed there because of lack of better place in the
past. But now that we have src/hypervisor/ the function should
live there. At the same time, the function name is changed to
match new location.

So far, when using the qemu:///embed driver, management
applications can't chose whether they want to register their
domains in machined or not. While having that option is certainly
desired, it will require more work. What we can do meanwhile is
to generate names that include part of hash of the root
directory. This is to ensure that if two applications using
different roots but the same domain name (and ID) start the
domain no clashing name for machined is generated.

This commit share host Real Time Clock device (rtc) into LXC containers
to support hardware clock. This should be available setting up a `rtc`
timer under clock section. Since this option is not emulated, it should
be available only for `localtime` clock. This option should be readonly
due to security reasons.

Historically threads are given a name based on the C function,
and this name is just used inside libvirt. With OS level thread
naming this name is now visible to debuggers, but also has to
fit in 15 characters on Linux, so function names are too long
in some cases.

The default memlock limit is 64k which is not enough to start a single
VM. The requirements for one VM are 12k, 8k for eBPF map and 4k for eBPF
program, however, it fails to create eBPF map and program with 64k limit.
By testing I figured out that the minimal limit is 80k to start a single
VM with functional eBPF and if I add 12k I can start another one.
This leads into following calculation:
80k as memlock limit worked to start a VM with eBPF which means there
is 68k of lock memory that I was not able to figure out what was using
it. So to get a number for 4096 VMs:
68 + 12 * 4096 = 49220
If we round it up we will get 64M of memory lock limit to support 4096
VMs with default map size which can hold 64 entries for devices.
This should be good enough as a sane default and users can change it if
the need to.

Historically, this file was a dump for most of our helper

With the introduction of virfile.h and virstring.h,

of GLib, that is no longer true.

After the introduction of virDomainDriverMergeBlkioDevice() in a
previous patch, it is now clear that lxcDomainSetBlkioParameters() and
qemuDomainSetBlkioParameters() uses the same loop to set cgroup
blkio parameter of a domain.
Avoid the repetition by adding a new helper called
virDomainCgroupSetupDomainBlkioParameters().

lxcDomainMergeBlkioDevice() and qemuDomainMergeBlkioDevice()
are the same functions. This duplicated code can't be put in
the existing domain_cgroup.c since it's not cgroup related.
This patch introduces a new src/hypervisor/domain_driver.c to
host this more generic code that can be shared between virt
drivers. This new file is then used to create a new helper
called virDomainDeivceMergeBlkioDevice() to eliminate the code
repetition mentioned above. Callers in LXC and QEMU files
were updated.
This change is a preliminary step for more code reduction of
cgroup related code inside lxcDomainSetBlkioParameters() and
qemuDomainSetBlkioParameters().

qemuSetupCgroupVcpuBW() and lxcSetVcpuBWLive() shares the
same code to set CPU CFS period and quota. This code can be
moved to a new virCgroupSetupCpuPeriodQuota() helper to
avoid code repetition.
A similar code is also executed in virLXCCgroupSetupCpuTune(),
but without the rollback on error. Use the new helper in this
function as well since the 'period' rollback, if not a
straight improvement for virLXCCgroupSetupCpuTune(), is
benign. And we end up cutting more code repetition.

The code that calls virCgroupSetCpuShares() and virCgroupGetCpuShares()
is repeated in 4 different places. Let's put it in a new
virCgroupSetupCpuShares() to avoid code repetition.
There's a reason of why we execute a Get in the same value we
just executed Set, explained in detail by commit 97814d8ab3.
Let's add a gist of the reasoning behind it as a comment in
this new function as well.

There is duplicated code between virt drivers that needs to
be moved to avoid code repetition. In the case of duplicated
code between lxc_cgroup.c and qemu_cgroup.c a common place
would be utils/vircgroup.c. The problem is that this would
introduce /conf related definitions that shouldn't be imported
to vircgroup.c, which is supposed to be a place for utilitary
cgroups functions only. And syntax-check would forbid it anyway
due to cross-directory includes being used.
An alternative would be to overload domain_conf.c, which already
contains all the definitions required. But that file is already
crowded with XML handling code and we wouldn't do any favors to
it by putting more utilitary, non-XML parsing/formatting code
there.
In [1], Cole suggested a 'domain_cgroup' file to host common code
between lxc_cgroup and qemu_cgroup, and Daniel suggested a
'src/hypervisor' dir to host these type of files. This patch
introduces src/hypervisor/domain_cgroup.c and, to get started,
introduces a new virDomainCgroupSetupBlkio() function to host shared
code between virLXCCgroupSetupBlkioTune() and qemuSetupBlkioCgroup().

This patch pushes the isolatedPort setting from the <interface> down
all the way to the callers of virNetDevBridgeAddPort(), and sets
BR_ISOLATED on the port (using virNetDevBridgePortSetIsolated()) after
the port has been successfully added to the bridge.

This deletes all trace of gnulib from libvirt. We still
have the keycodemapdb submodule to deal with. The simple
solution taken was to update it when running autogen.sh.
Previously gnulib could auto-trigger refresh when running
'make' too. We could figure out a solution for this, but
with the pending meson rewrite it isn't worth worrying
about, given how infrequently keycodemapdb changes.

After LXC version 3, some settings were changed to new names. Same as
network. LXC introduced network indexes and changed IPv{4,6} addresses
fields. Before, users should only pass `lxc.network.ipv4` to define an
IPv4 address. Now, on version 3, users need to pass
`lxc.net.X.ipv4.address` to specify the same thing. Same for IPv6.

To configure network settings using config file, legacy LXC settings
require starting them with 'lxc.network.type' entry. If someone
accidentally starts with 'lxc.network.name', libvirt will crash with
segfault. This patch checks if this case is happening.
Sample invalid settings:
lxc.network.link = eth0
lxc.network.type = phys
lxc.network.name = eth1
lxc.network.ipv4 = 192.168.122.2/24
lxc.network.ipv4.gateway = 192.168.122.1
Now, libvirt only see error without segmentation fault.

Domain definition is useless now inside network structure. This pointer
was required because new network definition was being added each time
that a new network type appeared. So, this should be processed into
old function `lxcNetworkParseDataType()`. Now, as it was moved to an
array, it can be handle together each interface pointer.

LXC version 3 or higher introduced indexes for network interfaces.
Libvirt should be able to parse entries like `lxc.net.2.KEY`. This
commit adds functions to parse this type of field. That's why array
structures are so important this time.

Struct lxcNetworkParseData is being used as a single pointer which
iterates through LXC config lines. It means that it will be applied as a
network each time that a new type appears. After, the same struct is
used to populate a new network interface. This commit changes this logic
to multiple lxcNetworkParseData to move this strcuture to an array. It
makes more sense if we are using indexes to fill interface settings.
This is better to improve code clarity.
This commit still introduces *Legacy() functions to keep support of
network old style definitions.

The intent here is to allow the virt drivers to be run directly embedded
in an arbitrary process without interfering with libvirtd. To achieve
this they need to store all their configuration & state in a separate
directory tree from the main system or session libvirtd instances.
This can be useful for doing testing of the virt drivers in "make check"
without interfering with the user's own libvirtd instances.
It can also be used for applications using KVM/QEMU as a piece of
infrastructure to build an service, rather than for general purpose
OS hosting. A long standing example is libguestfs, which would prefer
if its temporary VMs did show up in the main libvirtd VM list, because
this confuses apps such as OpenStack Nova. A more recent example would
be Kata which is using KVM as a technology to build containers.

LXC driver is not able to retrieve IP addresses from domains. This
function was not implemented yet. It can be done using DHCP lease and
ARP table. Different from QEMU, LXC does not have an agent to fetch
this info, but other sources can be used.

Libvirt's original atomic ops impls were largely copied
from GLib's code at the time. The only API difference
was that libvirt's virAtomicIntInc() would return a
value, but g_atomic_int_inc was void. We thus use
g_atomic_int_add(v, 1) instead, though this means
virAtomicIntInc() now returns the original value,
instead of the new value.
This rewrites libvirt's impl in terms of g_atomic_int*
as a short term conversion. The key motivation was to
quickly eliminate use of GNULIB's verify_expr() macro
which is not a direct match for G_STATIC_ASSERT_EXPR.
Long term all the callers should be updated to use
g_atomic_int* directly.

There is plenty of distributions that haven't switched to
systemd nor they force their users to (Gentoo, Alpine Linux to
name a few). With the daemon split merged their only option is to
still use the monolithic daemon which will go away eventually.
Provide init scripts for these distros too.
For now, I'm not introducing config files which would correspond
to the init files except for libvirtd and virtproxyd init scripts
where it might be desirable to tweak the command line of
corresponding daemons.

The NUMA cells are stored directly in the virCapsHostPtr
struct. This moves them into their own struct allowing
them to be stored independantly of the rest of the host
capabilities. The change is used as an excuse to switch
the representation to use a GPtrArray too.

To enable the virCapsPtr parameter to the post parse method to be

The XML parser currently calls virCapabilitiesDomainDataLookup during
parsing to find the domain capabilities matching the triple
(virt type, os type, arch)
This is, however, bogus with the QEMU driver as it assumes that there
is an emulator known to the default driver capabilities that matches
this triple. It is entirely possible for the driver to be parsing an
XML file with a custom emulator path specified pointing to a binary
that doesn't exist in the default driver capabilities. This will,
for example be the case on a RHEL host which only installs the host
native emulator to /usr/bin. The user can have built a custom QEMU
for non-native arches into $HOME and wish to use that.
Aside from validation, this call is also used to fill in a machine type
for the guest if not otherwise specified. Again, this data may be
incorrect for the QEMU driver because it is not taking account of
the emulator binary that is referenced.
To start fixing this, move the validation to the post-parse callbacks
where more intelligent driver specific logic can be applied.

Our normal practice is for the object type to be the name prefix, and
the object instance be the first parameter passed in.
Rename these to virDomainObjSave and virDomainDefSave moving their
primary parameter to be the first one. Ensure that the xml options
are passed into both functions in prep for future work.
Finally enforce checking of the return type and mark all parameters
as non-NULL.

<interface> devices (virDomainNetDef) are a bit different from other
types of devices in that their actual type may come from a network (in
the form of a port connection), and that doesn't happen until the
domain is started. This means that any validation of an <interface> at
parse time needs to be a bit liberal in what it accepts - when
type='network', you could think that something is/isn't allowed, but
once the domain is started and a port is created by the configured
network, the opposite might be true.
To solve this problem hypervisor drivers need to do an extra
validation step when the domain is being started. I recently (commit
3cff23f7, libvirt 5.7.0) added a function to peform such validation
for all interfaces to the QEMU driver -
qemuDomainValidateActualNetDef() - but while that function is a good
single point to call for the multiple places that need to "start" an
interface (domain startup, device hotplug, device update), it can't be
called by the other hypervisor drivers, since 1) it's in the QEMU
driver, and 2) it contains some checks specific to QEMU. For
validation that applies to network devices on *all* hypervisors, we
need yet another interface validation function that can be called by
any hypervisor driver (not just QEMU) right after its network port has
been created during domain startup or hotplug. This patch adds that
function - virDomainActualNetDefValidate(), in the conf directory,
and calls it in appropriate places in the QEMU, lxc, and libxl
drivers.
This new function is the place to put all network device validation
that 1) is hypervisor agnostic, and 2) can't be done until we know the
"actual type" of an interface.
There is no framework for validation at domain startup as there is for
post-parse validation, but I don't want to create a whole elaborate
system that will only be used by one type of device. For that reason,
I just made a single function that should be called directly from the
hypervisors, when they are initializing interfaces to start a domain,
right after conditionally allocating the network port (and regardless
of whether or not that was actually needed). In the case of the QEMU
driver, qemuDomainValidateActualNetDef() is already called in all the
appropriate places, so we can just call the new function from
there. In the case of the other hypervisors, we search for
virDomainNetAllocateActualDevice() (which is the hypervisor-agnostic
function that calls virNetworkPortCreateXML()), and add the call to our
new function right after that.
The new function itself could be plunked down into many places in the
code, but we already have 3 validation functions for network devices
in 2 different places (not counting any basic validation done in
virDomainNetDefParseXML() itself):
1) post-parse hypervisor-agnostic
(virDomainNetDefValidate() - domain_conf.c:6145)
2) post-parse hypervisor-specific
(qemuDomainDeviceDefValidateNetwork() - qemu_domain.c:5498)
3) domain-start hypervisor-specific
(qemuDomainValidateActualNetDef() - qemu_domain.c:5390)
I placed (3) right next to (2) when I added it, specifically to avoid
spreading validation all over the code. For the same reason, I decided
to put this new function right next to (1) - this way if someone needs
to add validation specific to qemu, they go to one location, and if
they need to add validation applying to everyone, they go to the
other. It looks a bit strange to have a public function in between a
bunch of statics, but I think it's better than the alternative of
further fragmentation. (I'm open to other ideas though, of course.)

In this case, the virNetDevBandwidthPtr that is returned is not to a
region within the virDomainNetDef arg, but points elsewhere (the
NetDef has the pointer, not the entire object), so technically it's
not necessary to make the return value a const, but it's a bit
disingenuous to *not* do it.

The usleep function was missing on older mingw versions, but we can rely
on it existing everywhere these days. It may only support times upto 1
second in duration though, so we'll prefer to use g_usleep instead.
The commandhelper program is not changed since that can't link to glib.
Fortunately it doesn't need to build on Windows platforms either.

Add the main glib.h to internal.h so that all common code can use it.
Historically glib allowed applications to register an alternative
memory allocator, so mixing g_malloc/g_free with malloc/free was not
safe.

gmem: clarify that g_malloc always uses the system allocator
Applications can still use custom allocators in general, but they must
do this by linking to a library that replaces the core malloc/free
implemenentation entirely, instead of via a glib specific call.
This means that libvirt does not need to be concerned about use of
g_malloc/g_free causing an ABI change in the public libary, and can
avoid memory copying when talking to external libraries.
This patch probes for glib, which provides the foundation layer with
a collection of data structures, helper APIs, and platform portability
logic.
Later patches will introduce linkage to gobject which provides the
object type system, built on glib, and gio which providing objects
for various interesting tasks, most notably including DBus client
and server support and portable sockets APIs, but much more too.

With the recent work in daemon split and socket activation
daemons can come and go. They can and will be started many times
during a session which results in objects being autostarted
multiple times. This is not optimal. Use
virDriverShouldAutostart() to determine if autostart should be
done or not.

A virDomainNetDef object in a domain's nets array might contain a
virDomainHostdevDef, and when this is the case, the domain's hostdevs
array will also have a pointer to this embedded hostdev (this is done
so that internal functions that need to perform some operation on all
hostdevs won't leave out the type='hostdev' network interfaces).
When a network device was updated with virDomainUpdateDeviceFlags(),
we were replacing the entry in the nets array (and free'ing the
original) but forgetting about the pointer in the hostdevs array
(which would then point to the now-free'd hostdev contained in the old
net object.) This often resulted in a libvirtd crash.
The solution is to add a function, virDomainNetUpdate(), called by
qemuDomainUpdateDeviceConfig(), that updates the hostdevs array
appropriately along with the nets array.

In some places where virDomainObjListForEach() is called the
passed callback calls virDomainObjListRemoveLocked(). Well, this
is unsafe, because the former only grabs a read lock but the
latter modifies the list.
I've identified the following unsafe calls:
- qemuProcessReconnectAll()
- libxlReconnectDomains()
The rest seem to be safe.

All code using LOCALSTATEDIR "/run" is updated to use RUNSTATEDIR
instead. The exception is the remote driver client which still
uses LOCALSTATEDIR "/run". The client needs to connect to remote
machines which may not be using /run, so /var/run is more portable
due to the /var/run -> /run symlink.
Some duplicate paths in the apparmor code are also purged.
There's no functional change by default yet since both expressions
expand to the same value.

When running in libvirtd, we are happy for any of the drivers to simply
skip their initialization in virStateInitialize, as other drivers are
still potentially useful.
When running in per-driver daemons though, we want the daemon to abort
startup if the driver cannot initialize itself, as the daemon will be
useless without it.

The augeas-gentest.pl program merges a config file into a augeas
file, saving the output to a new file. It is going to be useful
to further process the output file, and it would be easier if this can
be done with a pipeline, so change augeas-gentest.pl to write to stdout
instead of a file.

to make sure it gets the capabilities stored in the domain's private
data if the domain is running. Passing NULL may cause QEMU capabilities
probing to be triggered in case QEMU binary changed in the meantime.
When this happens while a running domain object is locked, QMP event
delivered to the domain before QEMU capabilities probing finishes will
deadlock the event loop.
QEMU capabilities lookup (via domainPostParseDataAlloc callback) is
hidden inside virDomainDeviceDefPostParseOne with no way to pass
qemuCaps to virDomainDeviceDef* functions. This patch fixes all
remaining paths leading to virDomainDeviceDefPostParse.

Now that 100% of libvirt code is forbidden in a SUID environment,
we no longer need to worry about whether env variables are
trustworthy or not. The virt-login-shell setuid program, which
does not link to any libvirt code, will purge all environment
variables, except $TERM, before invoking the virt-login-shell-helper
program which uses libvirt.
Thus we only need one API for env passthrough in virCommand.

Some VM configurations may result in a large number of threads created by
the associated qemu process which can exceed the system default limit. The
maximum number of threads allowed per process is controlled by the pids
cgroup controller and is set to 16k when creating VMs with systemd's
machined service. The maximum number of threads per process is recorded
in the pids.max file under the machine's pids controller cgroup hierarchy,
e.g.
$cgrp-mnt/pids/machine.slice/machine-qemu\\x2d1\\x2dtest.scope/pids.max
Maximum threads per process is controlled with the TasksMax property of
the systemd scope for the machine. This patch adds an option to qemu.conf
which can be used to override the maximum number of threads allowed per
qemu process. If the value of option is greater than zero, it will be set
in the TasksMax property of the machine's scope after creating the machine.

When we allow multiple instances of the driver for the same user
account, using a separate root directory, we need to ensure mutual
exclusion. Use a pidfile to guarantee this.
In privileged libvirtd this ends up locking
/var/run/libvirt/lxc/driver.pid
In unprivileged libvirtd this ends up locking
/run/user/$UID/libvirt/lxc/run/driver.pid

Libvirtd has long had integration with avahi for advertising libvirtd
using mDNS when TCP/TLS listening is enabled. For a long time the
virt-manager application had support for auto-detecting libvirtds
on the local network using mDNS, but this was removed last year

Libvirtd can advertise itself over avahi. The feature is disabled by
default though and in practice I hear of no one actually using it
and frankly I don't think it's all that useful
The 'Open Connection' wizard has a disproportionate amount of code
devoted to this feature, but I don't think it's useful or worth
maintaining, so let's drop it
I've never heard of any other applications having support for using
mDNS to detect libvirtd instances. Though it is theoretically possible
something exists out there, it is clearly going to be a niche use case
in the virt ecosystem as a whole.
By removing avahi integration we can cut down the dependency chain for
the basic libvirtd install and reduce our code maint burden.

Our coding style specifies that only negative values are considered as
error. Check for return value of virDomainDiskInsert() properly,
following the style. Not that the function can now return anything other
than 0 or -1, but it just triggers my OCD.

The call to resolve the actual network type will turn any NICs with
type=network into one of the other types. Thus there should be no need
to handle type=network in later switch() statements jumping off the
actual type.

The APIs for allocating/notifying/removing network ports just take
an internal domain interface struct right now. As a step towards
turning these into public facing APIs, add a virNetworkPtr argument
to all of them.

The port allocation APIs are currently called unconditionally for all
types of NIC, but (mostly) only do anything for NICs with type=network.
The exception is the port allocate API which does some validation even
for NICs with type!=network. Relying on this validation is flawed,
however, since the network driver may not even be installed. IOW virt
drivers must not delegate validation to the network driver for NICs
with type != network.
This change allows us to report errors when the virtual network driver
is not registered.

Standardize on putting the _LAST enum value on the second line
of VIR_ENUM_IMPL invocations. Later patches that add string labels

According to the official documentation for autoconf[1], the
correct names for these variables are abs_top_{src,build}dir
rather than abs_top{src,build}dir; in fact, we're already
using the correct names in various places, so let's just make
everything nice and consistent.

If shutting down a container via setting the runlevel fails, the
control jumps right onto endjob label and doesn't even try
sending the signal. If flags allow it, we should try both
methods.

Refactor lxcNetworkWalkCallback to be a simple method to handle
both possible network settings with indexes or the simple one. It is
better the decouple the whole algorithm to parse data to only parse
which entry type libvirt is handling.
The new method is responsible to verify is the settings correspond to
network entry. Right now, it is only verifying "lxc.network.", but in
the future, it can be used to verify "lxc.net.X." too. Any other case
would be rejected.
On the other hand, the idea here is working only with types. If we know
that entry is part of network settings, after we just need to know which
type is. It keeps the handler simple.

Many drivers had a comment that they did not validate the incoming
'flags' to virDomainGetXMLDesc() because they were relying on
virDomainDefFormat() to do it instead. This used to be the case
(at least since 461e0f1a and friends in 0.9.4 added unknown flag
checking in general), but regressed in commit 0ecd6851 (1.2.12),
when all of the drivers were changed to pass 'flags' through the
new helper virDomainDefFormatConvertXMLFlags(). Since this helper
silently ignores unknown flags, we need to implement flag checking
in each driver instead.
Annoyingly, this means that any new flag values added will silently
be ignored when targeting an older libvirt, rather than our usual
practice of loudly diagnosing an unsupported flag. Add comments
in domain_conf.[ch] to remind us to be extra vigilant about the
impact when adding flags (a new flag to add data is safe if the
older server omitting the requested data doesn't break things in
the newer client; a new flag to suppress data rather than enhancing
the existing VIR_DOMAIN_XML_SECURE may form a data leak or even a
security hole).
In the qemu driver, there are multiple callers all funnelling to
qemuDomainDefFormatBufInternal(); many of them already validated
flags (and often only a subset of the full set of possible flags),
but for ease of maintenance, we can also check flags at the common
helper function.

If the container is really a simple one (init is just bash and
the whole root is passed through) then virDomainReboot and
virDomainShutdown will talk to the actual init within the host.
Therefore, 'virsh shutdown $dom' will result in shutting down the
host. True, at that point the container is shut down too but
looks a bit harsh to me.
The solution is to check if the init inside the container is or
is not the same as the init running on the host.

So far the virInitctlSetRunLevel() is fully automatic. It finds
the correct fifo to use to talk to the init and it will set the
desired runlevel. Well, callers (so far there is just one) will
need to inspect the fifo a bit just before the runlevel is set.
Therefore, expose the internal list of fifos and also allow
caller to explicitly use one.

Missing semicolon at the end of macros can confuse some analyzers
(like cppcheck <filename>). VIR_ONCE_GLOBAL_INIT is almost
exclusively called without an ending semicolon, but let's
standardize on using one like the other macros.
Add a dummy struct definition at the end of the macro, so
the compiler will require callers to add a semicolon.

where $FILENAME is the uppercased filename, with all characters
outside a-z changed into '_'.
Note we do not use a leading __ because that is technically a
namespace reserved for the toolchain.

In many files there are header comments that contain an Author:
statement, supposedly reflecting who originally wrote the code.
In a large collaborative project like libvirt, any non-trivial
file will have been modified by a large number of different
contributors. IOW, the Author: comments are quickly out of date,
omitting people who have made significant contribitions.
In some places Author: lines have been added despite the person
merely being responsible for creating the file by moving existing
code out of another file. IOW, the Author: lines give an incorrect
record of authorship.
With this all in mind, the comments are useless as a means to identify
who to talk to about code in a particular file. Contributors will always
be better off using 'git log' and 'git blame' if they need to find the
author of a particular bit of code.
This commit thus deletes all Author: comments from the source and adds
a rule to prevent them reappearing.
The Copyright headers are similarly misleading and inaccurate, however,
we cannot delete these as they have legal meaning, despite being largely
inaccurate. In addition only the copyright holder is permitted to change
their respective copyright statement.

This commit fixes a bug when you have multiple network settings defined.
Basically, if you set an IPv6 or IPv4 gateway, it carries on next
network settings. It is happening because the data is not being
initialized when a new network type is defined. So, the old data still
persists into the pointer. Another way to initialized the data was
introduced using memset() to avoid missing attributes from the struct.

Commit 017dfa27d changed a few switch statements in the LXC code to
have all possible enum values, and in the process changed the switch
statement in virLXCControllerGetNICIndexes() to return an error status
for unsupported interface types, but it erroneously put type='direct'
on the list of unsupported types.
type='direct' (implemented with a macvlan interface) is supported on
LXC, but it's interface shouldn't be placed on the list of interfaces
given to CreateMachineWithNetwork() because the interface is put
inside the container, while CreateMachineWithNetwork() only wants to
know about the parent veths of veth pairs (the parent veth remains on
the host side, while the child veth is put into the container).

virLXCControllerGetNICIndexes() was deciding whether or not to add the
ifindex for an interface's ifname to the list of ifindexes sent to
CreateMachineWithNetwork based on the interface type stored in the
config. This would be incorrect in the case of <interface
type='network'> where the network was giving out macvlan interfaces
tied to a physical device (i.e. when the actual interface type was
"direct").
Instead of checking the setting of "net->type", we should be checking
the setting of virDomainNetGetActualType(net).
I don't think this caused any actual misbehavior, it was just
technically wrong.

A deadlock situation can occur when autostarting a LXC domain 'guest'
due to two threads attempting to take opposing locks while holding
opposing locks (AB BA problem). Thread A takes and holds the 'vm' lock
while attempting to take the 'client' lock, meanwhile, thread B takes
and holds the 'client' lock while attempting to take the 'vm' lock.
The potential for this can be seen as follows:
Thread A:
virLXCProcessAutostartDomain (takes vm lock)
--> virLXCProcessStart
--> virLXCProcessConnectMonitor
--> virLXCMonitorNew
--> virNetClientSetCloseCallback (wants client lock)
Thread B:
virNetClientIncomingEvent (takes client lock)
--> virNetClientIOHandleInput
--> virNetClientCallDispatch
--> virNetClientCallDispatchMessage
--> virNetClientProgramDispatch
--> virLXCMonitorHandleEventInit
--> virLXCProcessMonitorInitNotify (wants vm lock)
Since these threads are scheduled independently and are preemptible it
is possible for the deadlock scenario to occur where each thread locks
their first lock but both will fail to get their second lock and just
spin forever. You get something like:

Neither thread ever gets the lock it needs to be able to continue
while holding the lock that the other thread needs.
The actual window for preemption which can cause this deadlock is
rather small, between the calls to virNetClientProgramNew() and
execution of virNetClientSetCloseCallback(), both in
virLXCMonitorNew(). But it can be seen in real world use that this
small window is enough.
By moving the call to virNetClientSetCloseCallback() ahead of
virNetClientProgramNew() we can close any possible chance of the
deadlock taking place. There should be no other implications to the
move since the close callback (in the unlikely event was called) will
spin on the vm lock. The remaining work that takes place between the
old call location of virNetClientSetCloseCallback() and the new
location is unaffected by the move.

Commit 40b5c99a modified the virConfGetValue callers to use
virConfGetValueString. However, using the virConfGetValueString
resulted in leaking the returned @value string in each case.
So, let's modify each instance to use the VIR_AUTOFREE(char *)
syntax. In some instances changing the variable name since
@value was used more than once.

All of the ones being removed are pulled in by internal.h. The only
exception is sanlock which expects the application to include <stdint.h>
before sanlock's headers, because sanlock prototypes use fixed width
int, but they don't include stdint.h themselves, so we have to leave
that one in place.

Now that we know what metadata lock manager user wishes to use we
can load it when initializing security driver. This is achieved
by adding new argument to virSecurityManagerNewDriver() and
subsequently to all functions that end up calling it.
The cfg.mk change is needed in order to allow lock_manager.h
inclusion in security driver without 'syntax-check' complaining.
This is safe thing to do as locking APIs will always exist (it's
only backend implementation that changes). However, instead of
allowing the include for all other drivers (like cpu, network,
and so on) allow it only for security driver. This will still
trigger the error if including from other drivers.

Modify virCgroupFree function signature to take a value of type
virCgroupPtr instead of virCgroupPtr * as the parameter.
Change the argument type in all calls to virCgroupFree function
from virCgroupPtr * to virCgroupPtr. This is a step towards
having consistent function signatures for Free helpers so that
they can be used with VIR_AUTOPTR cleanup macro.

So we originally disabled LXC driver when libvirtd is running
under valgrind back in 05436ab7ff (which dates to beginning of
2009) as it was causing valgrind to crash. It's not the case
anymore. Valgrind works with LXC happily.

There are two places where we report supported sizes of huge pages:
/capabilities/host/cpu/pages
/capabilities/host/topology/cells/cell/pages
The former aggregates sizes over all NUMA nodes while the latter
reports supported sizes only for given node. While we are
reporting per NUMA node sizes we are not reporting the aggregated
sizes. I've noticed this when wondering why doesn't allocpages
completer work.

Currently, the functions return a pointer to the
destination buffer on success or NULL on failure.
Not only does this kind of error handling look quite
alien in the context of libvirt, where most functions
return zero on success and a negative int on failure,
but it's also somewhat pointless because unless there's
been a failure the returned pointer will be the same
one passed in by the user, thus offering no additional
value.
Change the functions so that they return an int
instead.

This commit fixes a lots of mount calls inside lxc_container.c file. The
NULL value into 'type' argument is causing a valgrind issue. See commit
794b576c2b for more details. The best approach to fix it is moving NULL
to "none" filesytem.

Although commit e3497f3f noted that the LIVE option doesn't
matter and removed the call to virDomainDefCompatibleDevice,
it didn't go quite far enough and change the order of the checks
and rework the code to just handle the config change causing
a failure after virDomainObjUpdateModificationImpact updates
the @flags. Since we only support config a lot of previously
conditional code is now just inlined.

When updating a live device users might pass different alias than
the one the device has. Currently, this is silently ignored which
goes against our behaviour for other parts of the device where we
explicitly allow only certain changes and error out loudly on
anything else.

Now that the nwfilter driver keeps a list of bindings that it has
created, there is no need for the complex virt driver callbacks. It is
possible to simply iterate of the list of recorded filter bindings.
This means that rebuilding filters no longer has to acquire any locks on
the virDomainObj objects, as they're never touched.

When adding a new object to the domain object list, there should
have been 2 virObjectRef calls made one for each list into which
the object was placed to match the 2 virObjectUnref calls that
would occur during Remove as part of virHashRemoveEntry when
virObjectFreeHashData is called when the element is removed from
the hash table as set up in virDomainObjListNew.
Some drivers (libxl, lxc, qemu, and vz) handled this inconsistency
by calling virObjectRef upon successful return from virDomainObjListAdd
in order to use virDomainObjEndAPI when done with the returned @vm.
While others (bhyve, openvz, test, and vmware) handled this via only
calling virObjectUnlock upon successful return from virDomainObjListAdd.
This patch will "unify" the approach to use virDomainObjEndAPI
for any @vm successfully returned from virDomainObjListAdd.
Because list removal is so tightly coupled with list addition,
this patch fixes the list removal algorithm to return the object
as entered - "locked and reffed". This way, the callers can then
decide how to uniformly handle add/remove success and failure.
This removes the onus on the caller to "specially handle" the
@vm during removal processing.
The Add/Remove logic allows for some logic simplification such
as in libxl where we can Remove the @vm directly rather than
needing to set a @remove_dom boolean and removing after the
libxlDomainObjEndJob completes as the @vm is locked/reffed.

Rework the code such that virDomainObjListFindByID will always
return a locked/ref counted object so that the callers can
always do the same cleanup logic to call virDomainObjEndAPI.
Makes accessing the objects much more consistent.
NB:
There were 2 callers (lxcDomainLookupByID and qemuDomainLookupByID)
that were already using the ByID name, but not virDomainObjEndAPI -
these were changed as well in this update/patch.

So far we are repeating the following lines over and over:

While this works, it is impossible to do some checking. Firstly,
the class name (the 2nd argument) doesn't match the name in the

Declare what URI schemes a driver supports in its virConnectDriver
struct. This allows us to skip trying to open the driver entirely
if the URI scheme doesn't match.

Add a localOnly flag to the virConnectDriver struct which allows a
driver to indicate whether it is local-only, or permits remote
connections. Stateful drivers running inside libvirtd are generally
local only. This allows us to remote the check for uri->server != NULL
from most drivers.

Currently the virDrvConnectOpen method is supposed to handle both
opening an explicit URI and auto-probing a driver if no URI is
given. Introduce a dedicated virDrvConnectURIProbe method to enable the
probing functionality to be split from the driver opening functionality.
It is still possible for NULL to be passed to the virDrvConnectOpen
method after this change, because the remote driver needs special
handling to enable probing of the URI against a remote libvirtd daemon.

Historically we have used a bare lxc:/// URI for connecting to LXC. This
is different from our practice with QEMU, UML, Parallels, Libxl, BHyve
and VirtualBox drivers, which all use a path of '/system' or '/session'
or both.
By making LXC allow '/system', we have fully standardized on the use of
either '/system' or '/session' for all the stateful drivers that run
inside libvirtd.
Support for lxc:/// is of course maintained for back-compat.

In error paths, if we call virDomainObjListRemove we will leak
the @vm because we have called with a reffed and locked @vm.
So rather than set it to NULL, relock the @vm and allow the
virDomainObjEndAPI to perform the magic of Unlock/Unref.

When calling virDomainDefCompatibleDevice to check a new device during
device update, we need to pass the original device which is going to be
updated in addition to the new device. Otherwise, the function can
report false conflicts.
The new argument is currently ignored by virDomainDefCompatibleDevice,
but this will change in the following patch.

Currently virt drivers will call directly into the network driver impl
to allocate domain interface devices where type=network. This introduces
a callback system to allow us to decouple the virt drivers from the
network driver.

Set a transient hostname on containers. The hostname is computed from
the container name, only keeping the valid characters [a-zA-Z0-9-] in it.
This filtering is based on RFC 1123 and allows a digit to start the
hostname.
Right-aligning backslashes when defining macros or using complex
commands in Makefiles looks cute, but as soon as any changes is
required to the code you end up with either distractingly broken
alignment or unnecessarily big diffs where most of the changes
are just pushing all backslashes a few characters to one side.

There is no need to have two different enums where one has the same
values as the other one with some additions.
Currently for on_poweroff and on_reboot we allow only subset of actions
that are allowed for on_crash. This was covered in parse time using
two different enums. Now to make sure that we don't allow setting
actions that are not supported we need to check it while validating
domain config.

In 0d3d020ba6 I've added capability to accept MAC addresses
for the API too. However, the implementation was faulty. It needs
to lookup the corresponding interface in the domain definition
and pass the ifname instead of MAC address.
