Now that we have a private storage pool list, we can take the next
step and convert to using objects. In this case, we're going to use
RWLockable objects (just like every other driver) with two hash
tables for lookup by UUID or Name.
Along the way the ForEach and Search API's will be adjusted to use
the related Hash API's and the various FindBy functions altered and
augmented to allow for HashLookup w/ and w/o the pool lock already
taken.
After virStoragePoolObjRemove we will need to virObjectUnref(obj)
after to indicate the caller is "done" with it's reference. The
Unlock occurs during the Remove.
The NumOf, GetNames, and Export functions all have their own callback
functions to return the required data and the FindDuplicate code
can use the HashSearch function callbacks.
Create an API to search through the storage pool objects looking for
a specific truism from a callback API in order to return the specific
storage pool object that is desired.
For now it'll just call the virStoragePoolObjUnlock, but a future
adjustment will do something different. Since the new API will check
for a NULL object before the Unlock call, callers no longer need to
check for NULL before calling.
The virStoragePoolObjUnlock is now private/static to virstorageobj.c
with a short term forward reference.
All APIs which expect a list of CPU models supported by hypervisors were
switched from char **models and int models to just accept a pointer to
virDomainCapsCPUModels object stored in domain capabilities. This avoids
the need to transform virDomainCapsCPUModelsPtr into a NULL-terminated
list of model names and also allows the various cpu driver APIs to
access additional details (such as its usability) about each CPU model.

In the past we updated host-model CPUs with host CPU data by adding a

the updateCPU flag to the formatting code to be able to properly output
updated host-model CPUs. Libvirt doesn't do this anymore, host-model
CPUs are turned into custom mode CPUs once updated with host CPU data
and thus there's no reason for keeping the hacks inside CPU XML

For the storage driver, the logic alters when the volumes.obj list grows

Since virnodedeviceobj now has a self-lockable hash table, there's no
need to lock the table from the driver for processing. Thus remove the
locks from the driver for NodeDeviceObjList mgmt.
This includes the test driver as well.
Alter the node device deletion logic to make use of the parent field
from the obj->def rather than call virNodeDeviceObjListGetParentHost.
As it turns out the saved @def won't have parent_wwnn/wwpn or

virNodeDeviceObjListGetParentHostByParent which we can accomplish
directly via virNodeDeviceObjListFindByName.

- In testDestroyVport rather than use a cleanup label, just return -1
immediately since nothing else is needed.
- In testStoragePoolDestroy, if !privpool, then just return -1 since

- Rather than "goto cleanup;" on failure to virNodeDeviceObjFindByName
an @obj, just return directly. This then allows the cleanup: label code
to not have to check "if (obj)" before calling virNodeDeviceObjUnlock.
This also simplifies some exit logic...
- In testNodeDeviceObjFindByName use an error: label to handle the failure
and don't do the ncaps++ within the VIR_STRDUP() source target index.
Only increment ncaps after success. Easier on eyes at error label too.

and how to handle the logic afterwards. This includes free'ing the object
and/or setting the local variable to NULL to prevent subsequent unexpected
usage (via something like virNodeDeviceObjRemove in testNodeDeviceDestroy).
For now this function will just handle the remove of the object from the
list for which it was placed during virNodeDeviceObjAssignDef.
This essentially reverts logic from commit id '61148074' that free'd the

If a remote call fails during event registration (more than likely from
a network failure or remote libvirtd restart timed just right), then when
calling the virObjectEventStateDeregisterID we don't want to call the
registered @freecb function because that breaks our contract that we
would only call it after succesfully returning. If the @freecb routine
were called, it could result in a double free from properly coded
applications that free their opaque data on failure to register, as seen
in the following details:
Program terminated with signal 6, Aborted.
#0 0x00007fc45cba15d7 in raise

The double dereference of 'pyobj_cbData' is triggered in the following way:
(1) libvirt_virConnectDomainEventRegisterAny is invoked.
(2) the event is successfully added to the event callback list
(virDomainEventStateRegisterClient in
remoteConnectDomainEventRegisterAny returns 1 which means ok).
(3) when function remoteConnectDomainEventRegisterAny is hit,
network connection disconnected coincidently (or libvirtd is
restarted) in the context of function 'call' then the connection
is lost and the function 'call' failed, the branch
virObjectEventStateDeregisterID is therefore taken.
(4) 'pyobj_conn' is dereferenced the 1st time in
libvirt_virConnectDomainEventFreeFunc.
(5) 'pyobj_cbData' (refered to pyobj_conn) is dereferenced the
2nd time in libvirt_virConnectDomainEventRegisterAny.
(6) the double free error is triggered.
Resolve this by adding a @doFreeCb boolean in order to avoid calling the
freeCb in virObjectEventStateDeregisterID for any remote call failure in
a remoteConnect*EventRegister* API. For remoteConnect*EventDeregister* calls,
the passed value would be true indicating they should run the freecb if it
exists; whereas, it's false for the remote call failure path.

Make common helpers testNetworkObjFindByUUID and testStoragePoolObjFindByUUID

rather than a generic error message.
Rather than have multiple places using the same pattern to find

}
Make some common helpers which will use the pattern and make a single

Rework the code to perform the various searches by parent, parent_wwnn/
parent_wwpn, parent_fabric_wwn, or vport capable in order to return the
'parent_host' number that is vHBA capable.
The former virNodeDeviceGetParentHost is renamed to add the ByParent
on it fixes an issue where if no parent was supplied in the XML to
create the vHBA, then virNodeDeviceFindByName was called with a NULL
second parameter which had bad results.
The reworked code will make the various calls to fetch the NPIV host
by the passed parameter options or if none are provided find a vport
capable NPIV HBA to perform the create. If the call is from the delete
path, then this option won't be allowed.
Each of virNodeDeviceGetParentHostBy* functions is now static, so
remove them external definitions.
A secondary benefit of this is the test_driver now can make use of
the new API to add some new tests to test the various creation options.
Modify the code to react more like a real HBA -> vHBA creation.
Currently the code would just modify the input XML definition to
set the name to a wwpn and then modify the scsi_host capability
entry for the defintion to change the scsi_host# and unique_id
before adding that into the node device.
This patch does things a bit better. It finds and copies a known
existing vHBA (scsi_host11) in the node_device database and modifies
that definition to change the name to scsi_host12 and set the wwnn/
wwpn to what the input XML would expect before adding the def to the
node device object list.
Then rather than create a returned "dev" using the (poorly) mocked
name - perform the lookup using the new device name.
Rather than inline the dummy creation of a vHBA to add to the node
devices - create a helper to do that work.
Also just tidy up a couple of things while at it...
Predefine a second NPIV capable HBA as well as a vHBA using the first
NPIV capable HBA. This will allow for a mechanism to perform more
realistic create vHBA testing.
Alter "test-scsi-host-vport" to be "scsi_host1" to match the real
environment. This is the vport capable HBA - IOW the NPIV device.
Add more fields to scsi_host1 as well.
Alter the XML being used by the objecttest to create a vHBA in order
to match the scsi_host1 parent name and to use validateable wwnn/wwpn.
This will allow for realistic testing.
When the 'parent' was added to the virNodeDevicePtr structure
by commit id 'e8a4ea75a' the 'parent' field was not properly filled
in when a virGetNodeDevice call was made within driver/config code.
Only the device name was ever filled in. Fetching the parent required
a second trip via virNodeDeviceGetParent into the node device lookup
code was required in order to retrieve the specific parent field (and
still the parent field was never filled in although it was free'd).
Since we have the data when we initially call virGetNodeDevice from
within driver/node_config code - let's just fill in the parent field
as well for anyone that wants it without requiring another trip into
the node_device lookup just to get the parent.
This will allow API's such as virConnectListAllNodeDevices,
virNodeDeviceLookupByName, and virNodeDeviceLookupSCSIHostByWWN
to retrieve both name and parent in the returned virNodeDevicePtr.

The code for replacing domain's transient definition with the persistent
one is repeated in several places and we'll need to add one more. Let's
make a nice helper for it.

Test 12 from objecteventtest (createXML add event) segaults on FreeBSD
with bus error.
At some point it calls testNodeDeviceDestroy() from the test driver. And
it fails when it tries to unlock the device in the "out:" label of this
function.
Unlocking fails because the previous step was a call to
virNodeDeviceObjRemove from conf/node_device_conf.c. This function
removes the given device from the device list and cleans up the object,
including destroying of its mutex. However, it does not nullify the pointer
that was given to it.
As a result, we end up in testNodeDeviceDestroy() here:
out:
if (obj)
virNodeDeviceObjUnlock(obj);
And instead of skipping this, we try to do Unlock and fail because of
malformed mutex.
Change virNodeDeviceObjRemove to use double pointer and set pointer to
NULL.
A nodedev device definition like this is required for testing
NodeDeviceCreateXML and NodeDeviceDestroy. So unless it's part
of the stock test:///default set there's no way to actually
invoke those functions for the default URI
Convert the individual XML documents into one big XML document
in the format expected by the non-default test://$PATH URI, and
use the same internal helpers for assembling the driver contents.
Allow to store driver specific data on a per-vcpu basis.
Move of the virDomainDef*Vcpus* functions was necessary as
virDomainXMLOptionPtr was declared below this block and I didn't want to
split the function headers.
The VIR_STORAGE_POOL_EVENT_REFRESHED constant does not
reflect any change in the lifecycle of the storage pool.
It should thus not be part of the storage pool lifecycle
event set, but rather be a top level event in its own
right. Thus we introduce VIR_STORAGE_POOL_EVENT_ID_REFRESH
to replace it.

The virConnectOpenInternal method opens the libvirt client
config file and uses it to resolve things like URI aliases.
There may be driver specific things that are useful to
store in the config file too, so rather than have them
re-parse the same file, pass the virConfPtr down to the
drivers.

Remove the live attribute and mark the definition as transient
whether the domain is runing or not.
There were only two callers left calling with live=false:
* testDomainStartState, where the domain already is active
because we assigned vm->def->id just a few lines above the call
* virDomainObjGetPersistentDef, which now only calls
virDomainObjSetDefTransient for an active domain
Our existing virHashForEach method iterates through all items disregarding the
fact, that some of the iterators might have actually failed. Errors are usually
dispatched through an error element in opaque data which then causes the
original caller of virHashForEach to return -1. In that case, virHashForEach
could return as soon as one of the iterators fail. This patch changes the
iterator return type and adjusts all of its instances accordingly, so the
actual refactor of virHashForEach method can be dealt with later.

Our domain_conf.* files are big enough. Not only they contain XML
parsing code, but they served as a storage of all functions whose
name is virDomain prefixed. This is just wrong as it gathers not
related functions (and modules) into one big file which is then
harder to maintain. Split virDomainObjList module into a separate
file called virdomainobjlist.[ch].

So, you want to create a domain from XML. The domain already
exists in libvirt's database of domains. It's okay, because name
and UUID matches. However, on domain startup, internal
representation of the domain is overwritten with your XML even
though we claim that the XML you've provided is a transient one.
The bug is to be found across nearly all the drivers.
Le sigh.

Okay, so we allow users to 'virsh create' an already existing
domain, providing completely different XML than the one stored in
Libvirt. Well, as long as name and UUID matches. However, in some
drivers the code that handles errors unconditionally removes the
domain that failed to start even though the domain might have
been persistent. Fortunately, the domain is removed just from the
internal list of domains and the config file is kept around.
Steps to reproduce:
1) virsh dumpxml $dom > /tmp/dom.xml
2) change XML so that it is still parse-able but won't boot, e.g.
change guest agent path to /foo/bar
3) virsh create /tmp/dom.xml
4) virsh dumpxml $dom
5) Observe "No such domain" error

Drop internal data structures and use the proper fields in virDomainDef.
This allows to greatly simplify the code and allows to remove the
private data structure that was holding just redundant data.
This patch also fixes the bogous output where we'd report that a fresh
VM without vCPU pinning would not run on all vcpus.
Only self-locking APIs are used and the pointer is immutable so there's
no need to lock the driver to access the domain list.
This patch removes locking partially for everything that will not be
converted to testDomObjFromDomain in the next patch.
Make testObjectEventQueue tolerant to NULL @event and move it so that it
does not require a prototype. Additionally we are now able to remove
locking when accessing driver->eventState, since it's using self-locking
APIs and the pointer is immutable.
In a couple of cases, the node device driver (and the test node device
driver which likely copied it) was only logging "Node device not
found" when it couldn't find the requested device. This patch changes
those cases to log the name (and in the case when it's relevant, the
wwnn and wwpn) as well.
For some reason a union (_virNodeDevCapData) that had only been
declared inside the toplevel struct virNodeDevCapsDef was being used
as an argument to functions all over the place. Since it was only a
union, the "type" attribute wasn't necessarily sent with it. While
this works, it just seems wrong.
This patch creates a toplevel typedef for virNodeDevCapData and
virNodeDevCapDataPtr, making it a struct that has the type attribute
as a member, along with an anonymous union of everything that used to
be in union _virNodeDevCapData. This way we only have to change the
following:
s/union _virNodeDevCapData */virNodeDevCapDataPtr /
and
s/caps->type/caps->data.type/
This will make me feel less guilty when adding functions that need a
pointer to one of these.
Every domain that grabs a domain object to work over should
reference it to make sure it won't disappear meanwhile.

This function does not make any sense now, that network driver is
(almost) dropped. I mean, previously, when threads were
serialized, this function was there to check, if no other network
with the same name or UUID exists. However, nowadays that threads
can run more in parallel, this function is useless, in fact it
gives misleading return values. Consider the following scenario.
Two threads, both trying to define networks with same name but
different UUID (e.g. because it was generated during XML parsing
phase, whatever). Lets assume that both threads are about to call
networkValidate() which immediately calls
virNetworkObjIsDuplicate().
T1: calls virNetworkObjIsDuplicate() and since no network with
given name or UUID exist, success is returned.
T2: calls virNetworkObjIsDuplicate() and since no network with
given name or UUID exist, success is returned.
T1: calls virNetworkAssignDef() and successfully places its
network into the virNetworkObjList.
T2: calls virNetworkAssignDef() and since network with the same
name exists, the network definition is replaced.
Okay, this is mainly because virNetworkAssignDef() does not check
whether name and UUID matches. Well, lets make it so! And drop
useless function too.

As there are two possible approaches to define a domain's memory size -
one used with legacy, non-NUMA VMs configured in the <memory> element
and per-node based approach on NUMA machines - the user needs to make
sure that both are specified correctly in the NUMA case.
To avoid this burden on the user I'd like to replace the NUMA case with
automatic totaling of the memory size. To achieve this I need to replace
direct access to the virDomainMemtune's 'max_balloon' field with
two separate getters depending on the desired size.
The two sizes are needed as:
1) Startup memory size doesn't include memory modules in some
hypervisors.
2) After startup these count as the usable memory size.
Note that the comments for the functions are future aware and document
state that will be present after a few later patches.
Well, if 'everywhere' is defined as that part of the driver code
that serves virNetwork* APIs. Again, we lower layers already have
their locks, so there's no point doing big lock.

This patch turns both virNetworkObjFindByUUID() and
virNetworkObjFindByName() to return an referenced object so that
even if caller unlocks it, it's for sure that object won't
disappear meanwhile. Especially if the object (in general) is
locked and unlocked during the caller run.
Moreover, this commit is nicely small, since the object unrefing
can be done in virNetworkObjEndAPI().

So far, this is pure code replacement. But once we introduce
reference counting to virNetworkObj this will be more handy as
there'll be only one function to change: virNetworkObjEndAPI().

In order to hide the object internals (and use just accessors
everywhere), lets store a pointer to the object, instead of object
itself.
Signed-off-by: Michal Privoznik <mprivozn@redhat.com>
Instead of copying the whole object onto stack when calling the
function, just pass the pointer to the object and save up some
space on the stack. Moreover, this prepares the code to hide the
virNetworkObjList structure into network_conf.c and use accessors
only.

network object is never unlocked.

For stateless, client side drivers, it is never correct to
probe for secondary drivers. It is only ever appropriate to
use the secondary driver that is associated with the
hypervisor in question. As a result the ESX & HyperV drivers
have both been forced to do hacks where they register no-op
drivers for the ones they don't implement.
For stateful, server side drivers, we always just want to
use the same built-in shared driver. The exception is
virtualbox which is really a stateless driver and so wants
to use its own server side secondary drivers. To deal with
this virtualbox has to be built as 3 separate loadable
modules to allow registration to work in the right order.
This can all be simplified by introducing a new struct
recording the precise set of secondary drivers each
hypervisor driver wants
struct _virConnectDriver {
virHypervisorDriverPtr hypervisorDriver;
virInterfaceDriverPtr interfaceDriver;
virNetworkDriverPtr networkDriver;
virNodeDeviceDriverPtr nodeDeviceDriver;
virNWFilterDriverPtr nwfilterDriver;
virSecretDriverPtr secretDriver;
virStorageDriverPtr storageDriver;
};
Instead of registering the hypervisor driver, we now
just register a virConnectDriver instead. This allows
us to remove all probing of secondary drivers. Once we
have chosen the primary driver, we immediately know the
correct secondary drivers to use.
