This reverts commit 226094fbc4.
A deprecation is a warning to something that use of a feature is
being discouraged. By definition it is not an error condition to
continue to use a deprecated feature.
A VIR_ERR_DEPRECATED constant thus makes no conceptual sense. For
features which are entirely absent we already document that the
VIR_ERR_NO_SUPPORT code will be used. There is no need to distinguish
between a feature which never existed and a feature which previously
existed and was since removed.

When using virDomainSnapshotCreateXML with the REDEFINE flag on
multiple snapshot metadata XML descriptions, we require that a child
cannot be redefined before its parent. Since libvirt already tracks a
DAG, it is more convenient if we can ensure that
virDomainListAllSnapshots() and friends have a way to return data in
an order that we can directly reuse, rather than having to
post-process the data ourselves to reconstruct the DAG.
Add VIR_DOMAIN_SNAPSHOT_LIST_TOPOLOGICAL as our new guarantee (well, a
guarantee at the time of the API call conclusion; there's always a
possible TOCTTOU race where someone redefining snapshots in between
the API results and the client actually using the list might render
the list out-of-date). Four listing APIs are directly benefitted by
the new flag; additionally, since we document that the older racy
ListNames interfaces should be sized by using the same flags on their
Num counterparts, the Num interfaces must document when they accept
(and ignore) the flag.
We could have supported the new flag just for the ListAll APIs (to
discourage people from using the older racy Num/ListNames APIs), but
it feels weird to special-case this flag value as being applicable to
only a subset of the API while all other List-related flags are
trivially applicable to all 6.

3 flags defined at the time would never be valid. Later, commit
28f8dfdc (1.0.0) introduced a new flag, VIR_DOMAIN_XML_MIGRATABLE, but
did not adjust the snapshot documentation to declare it as invalid.
However, since the flag is not accepted as valid by any of the
drivers (remote is just passthrough; esx and vbox don't support flags;
qemu, test, and vz only support VIR_DOMAIN_XML_SECURE), and it is
unlikely that the domain state saved off during a snapshot creation
needs to be migration-friendly (as the snapshot is not the source of
a migration), it is easier to just define an explicit set of supported
flags directly related to the snapshot API rather than trying to
borrow from domain API, and risking confusion if even more domain
flags are added later (in fact, I have an upcoming patch that plans to
add a new flag to virDomainGetXMLDesc that makes no sense for
snapshots).
There is no API or ABI impact (since we purposefully used unsigned int

28f8dfdc (1.0.0) introduced a new flag, VIR_DOMAIN_XML_MIGRATABLE, but
did not adjust the save image documentation to declare it as invalid.
Later, commit a67e3872 (3.7.0) blindly copied and pasted the same text
into virDomainManagedSaveGetXMLDesc.
However, since the flag is not accepted as valid by any of the
drivers (remote is just passthrough; and qemu is the only supporting
driver for either API, with support for just VIR_DOMAIN_XML_SECURE),
it is easier to just define an explicit set of supported flags
directly related to the save image API rather than trying to borrow
from live domain API, and risking confusion if even more domain flags
are added later (in fact, I have an upcoming patch that plans to add
a new flag to virDomainGetXMLDesc that makes no sense for saved
images). We may someday decide that saved images need to support the
_MIGRATABLE flag, as it is possible to load a saved image with a
different version of libvirt than the one that created it, but that
can be a separate patch if it is ever needed. Meanwhile, it DOES make
sense to reuse the same flags for SaveImage and for ManagedSave (since
ManagedSave is really just sugar for creating a normal SaveImage in a
location controlled by libvirt instead of by the user).

In many files there are header comments that contain an Author:
statement, supposedly reflecting who originally wrote the code.
In a large collaborative project like libvirt, any non-trivial
file will have been modified by a large number of different
contributors. IOW, the Author: comments are quickly out of date,
omitting people who have made significant contribitions.
In some places Author: lines have been added despite the person
merely being responsible for creating the file by moving existing
code out of another file. IOW, the Author: lines give an incorrect
record of authorship.
With this all in mind, the comments are useless as a means to identify
who to talk to about code in a particular file. Contributors will always
be better off using 'git log' and 'git blame' if they need to find the
author of a particular bit of code.
This commit thus deletes all Author: comments from the source and adds
a rule to prevent them reappearing.
The Copyright headers are similarly misleading and inaccurate, however,
we cannot delete these as they have legal meaning, despite being largely
inaccurate. In addition only the copyright holder is permitted to change
their respective copyright statement.

instead of the "allocation" size. This will provide similar capabilities to
the virDomainBlockInfo which can return both allocation and physical of a
domain storage volume.
NB: Since we're reusing the _virStorageVolInfo and not creating a new
_virStorageVolInfoFlags structure, we'll need to generate the rpc APIs
remoteStorageVolGetInfoFlags and remoteDispatchStorageVolGetInfoFlags
(although both were originally created from gendispatch.pl and then
just copied into daemon/remote.c and src/remote/remote_driver.c).
The new API will allow the usage of a VIR_STORAGE_VOL_GET_PHYSICAL flag
and will make the decision to return the physical or allocation value
into the allocation field.
In order to get that physical value, virStorageBackendUpdateVolTargetInfoFD
adds logic to fill in physical value matching logic in qemuStorageLimitsRefresh
used by virDomainBlockInfo when the domain is inactive.

Opposite operation to virAdmServerGetClientLimits. Understandably though,
setting values for current number of clients connected or still waiting
for authentication does not make sense, since changes to these values are event
dependent, i.e. a client connects - counter is increased. Thus only the limits
to maximum clients connected and waiting for authentication can be set. Should
a request for other controls to be set arrive (provided such a setting will
be first introduced to the config), the set of configuration controls can be
later expanded (thanks to typed params). This patch also introduces a
constraint that the maximum number of clients waiting for authentication has to
be less than the overall maximum number of clients connected and any attempt to
violate this constraint will be denied.

Enable retrieval of the number of maximum clients connected to all sockets
combined, as well as the number of maximum clients waiting for authentication,

through libvirtd.conf, however, it could be handy to not only know values for
these limits, but also the values for the current number of clients
connected and number of clients currently waiting for authentication which are
changing dynamically. This API does both, retrieves the limits as well as the
current dynamic values.

This is just a trivial cosmetic change, throughout all the APIs the argument
is called conn as from 'connection', having 'dmn' at just this single place

Once we're able to list and identify all clients connected to a specific

disconnected successfully.

Expose a public API to retrieve some identity and connection information about
a client connected to the specified server on daemon. The identity info
retrieved is mostly connection transport dependent, i.e. there won't be any
socket address returned for a local (UNIX socket) connection, while on the
other hand, when connected through TLS or unencrypted TCP, obviously no UNIX
process identification will be present in the returned data. All supported
values that can be returned in typed params are exposed and documented in
include/libvirt/libvirt-admin.h
Signed-off-by: Erik Skultety <eskultet@redhat.com>
This patch could easily be squashed with the virAdmClientGetInfo method
introduced later one, but the idea was to split the logic to as many preferably
independent patches as possible. As the subject hints, this patch defines
some public typed params-related macros used within virAdmClientGetInfo
method. The thing is, there's one identity attribute missing in the set --
SELinux context, which libvirt internally supports in virIdentity, but it
doesn't seem to do much (or anything at all), so there's some room to extend
the set in the future.

Just like with server-related APIs, before any of client-based APIs can be
called, a reference to a client-side client object needs to be obtained. For
this purpose, a lookup method should exist. Apart from the client retrieval
logic, a new error code for non-existent client had to be added as well.
Signed-off-by: Erik Skultety <eskultet@redhat.com>
Besides ID, the object also stores static data like connection transport and
connection timestamp, since once obtained a list of all clients connected to a
server, from user's perspective, it would be nice to know whether a given
client is remote or local only and when did it connect to the daemon.
Along with the object introduction, all necessary client-side methods necessary
to work with the object are added as well.

Since threadpool increments the current number of threads according to current
load, i.e. how many jobs are waiting in the queue. The count however, is
constrained by max and min limits of workers. The logic of this new API works
like this:
1) setting the minimum
a) When the limit is increased, depending on the current number of
threads, new threads are possibly spawned if the current number of
threads is less than the new minimum limit
b) Decreasing the minimum limit has no possible effect on the current
number of threads
2) setting the maximum
a) Icreasing the maximum limit has no immediate effect on the current
number of threads, it only allows the threadpool to spawn more
threads when new jobs, that would otherwise end up queued, arrive.
b) Decreasing the maximum limit may affect the current number of
threads, if the current number of threads is less than the new
maximum limit. Since there may be some ongoing time-consuming jobs
that would effectively block this API from killing any threads.
Therefore, this API is asynchronous with best-effort execution,
i.e. the necessary number of workers will be terminated once they
finish their previous job, unless other workers had already
terminated, decreasing the limit to the requested value.
3) setting priority workers
- both increase and decrease in count of these workers have an
immediate impact on the current number of workers, new ones will be
spawned or some of them get terminated respectively.

The reason for this is to fix the automatic rebuild of libvirt-common.h.in.
All *.in files should be automatically rebuilt each time they're modified.
It works well for makefiles and pkgconfig files, since they do have a valid
dependency in the top-level Makefile. However, with libvirt-common.h.in
there is no dependency in the top-level Makefile and there's no need for it
either, so this rule
include/libvirt/libvirt-common.h: $(top_builddir)/config.status \
$(top_srcdir)/include/libvirt/libvirt-common.h.in
cd $(top_builddir) && $(SHELL) ./config.status $@
is never hit and should be moved to include/Makefile, but that's automake's
job. According to GNU automake docs:
"Files created by AC_CONFIG_FILES, be they
Automake Makefiles or not, are all removed by ‘make distclean’. Their inputs
are automatically distributed, unless they are the output of prior
AC_CONFIG_FILES commands. Finally, rebuild rules are generated in the Automake
Makefile existing in the subdirectory of the output file, if there is one, or
in the top-level Makefile otherwise."
Which means that if we want to have the rule for libvirt-common.h automatically
generated by automake, the include/Makefile.am needs to be moved into libvirt/
subdirectory and $SUBDIRS in the top-level Makefile need to be adjusted as
well. This patch moves Makefile.am from include/ to include/libvirt, adjusting
the prefixes accordingly as well as updates the top-level Makefile $SUBDIRS to
properly hint automake to generate all rules at proper places.
Best way to see the changes, use -M with 'git show'.

When there isn't a ssh -X type session running and a user has not
been added to the libvirt group, attempts to run 'virsh -c qemu:///system'
commands from an otherwise unprivileged user will fail with rather
generic or opaque error message:
"error: authentication failed: no agent is available to authenticate"
This patch will adjust the error code and message to help reflect the
situation that the problem is the requested mechanism is UNAVAILABLE and
a slightly more descriptive error. The result on a failure then becomes:
"error: authentication unavailable: no polkit agent available to
authenticate action 'org.libvirt.unix.manage'"
A bit more history on this - at one time a failure generated the
following type message when running the 'pkcheck' as a subprocess:
"error: authentication failed: polkit\56retains_authorization_after_challenge=1
Authorization requires authentication but no agent is available."
but, a patch was generated to adjust the error message to help provide
more details about what failed. This was pushed as commit id '96a108c99'.
That patch prepended a "polkit: " to the output. It really didn't solve
the problem, but gave a hint.
After some time it was deemed using DBus API calls directly was a
better way to go (since pkcheck calls them anyway). So, commit id
'1b854c76' (more or less) copied the code from remoteDispatchAuthPolkit
and adjusted it. Then commit id 'c7542573' adjusted the remote.c
code to call the new API (virPolkitCheckAuth). Finally, commit id
'308c0c5a' altered the code to call DBus APIs directly. In doing
so, it reverted the failing error message to the generic message
that would have been received from DBus anyway.
This API is merely a convenience API, i.e. when managing clients connected to

is connected to. This implies a client-side representation of a server along

This is the key structure of all management operations performed on the

It does not overwrite all the data in a volume, but it tells the
backing storage pool/driver that all bytes in a volume can be
discarded.
It depends on the backing storage pool how this is handled.

A Ceph backend might use rbd_discard() to instruct the Ceph cluster

(caused by automated approach, aka sed) and some more severe isues along with
it. First reason to revert is the inconsistency with libvirt library.
Although we deal with the daemon directly rather than with a specific
hypervisor, we still do have a connection. That being said, contributors might
get under the impression that AdmDaemonNew would spawn/start a new daemon
(since it's admin API, why not...), or AdmDaemonClose would do the exact
opposite or they might expect DaemonIsAlive report overall status of the daemon
which definitely isn't the case.
The second reason to revert this patch is renaming virt-admin client. The
client tool does not necessarily have to reflect the names of the API's it's
using in his internals. An example would be 's/vshAdmConnect/vshAdmDaemon'
where noone can be certain of what the latter function really does. The former
is quite expressive about some connection magic it performs, but the latter does
not say anything, especially when vshAdmReconnect and vshAdmDisconnect were
left untouched.

Add flags handling to the virStoragePoolCreate and virStoragePoolCreateXML
API's which will allow the caller to provide the capability for the storage
pool create API's to also perform a pool build during creation rather than
requiring the additional buildPool step. This will allow transient pools
to be defined, built, and started.
The new flags are:
* VIR_STORAGE_POOL_CREATE_WITH_BUILD
Perform buildPool without any flags passed.
* VIR_STORAGE_POOL_CREATE_WITH_BUILD_OVERWRITE
Perform buildPool using VIR_STORAGE_POOL_BUILD_OVERWRITE flag.
* VIR_STORAGE_POOL_CREATE_WITH_BUILD_NO_OVERWRITE
Perform buildPool using VIR_STORAGE_POOL_BUILD_NO_OVERWRITE flag.
It is up to the backend to handle the processing of build flags. The
overwrite and no-overwrite flags are mutually exclusive.

This patch is loosely based upon code originally authored by Osier

virAdmConnect was named after virConnect, but after some discussions,
most of the APIs called will be working with remote daemon and starting
them virAdmDaemon will make more sense. Only possibly controversal name
is CloseCallback (de)registration, and connecting to the daemon (which
will still be Open/Close), but even this makes sense if one thinks about
the daemon being opened and closed, e.g. as file, etc.
This way all the APIs working with the daemon will start with
virAdmDaemon prefix, they will accept virAdmDaemonPtr as first parameter
and that will better suit with other namings as well (virDomain*,
virAdmServer*, etc.).
Because in virt-admin, the connection name does not refer to a struct
that would have a connect in its name, also adjust 'connname' in
clients. And because it is not used anywhere in the vsh code, move it
from there into each client.

Introduce a new API to get libvirt version. It is worth noting, that
libvirt-admin and libvirt share the same version number. Unfortunately,
our existing API isn't generic enough to be used with virAdmConnectPtr
as well. Also this patch wires up this API to the virt-admin client
as a generic cmdVersion command.
As we need a client disconnect handler, we also need a mechanism to register
such handlers for a client. This patch introduced both the close callbacks and
also the client vshAdmCatchDisconnect handler to be registered with it. By
registering the handler we still need to make sure the client can react to
daemon's events like disconnect or keepalive, so asynchronous I/O event polling
is necessary to be enabled too.
Since most of our APIs rely on an acive functional connection to a daemon and
we have such a mechanism in libvirt already, there's need to have such a way in
libvirt-admin as well. By introducing a new public API, this patch provides
support to check for an active connection.
Unfortunately, client side version retrieval API virGetVersion uses
one-time initialization (due to the fact we might not have initialized the
library by calling connect prior to this) which is not completely compatible
with admin initialization. This API is rather simplistic and reimplementing
it for admin might be the preferred method of reusing it. Note that even though
the method will be reimplemented, the version number is still the same for both
the libvirt and libvirt-admin library.
As it turned out, we need to share some enums and declarations between
libvirt.h and libvirt-admin.h, but since our policy forbids direct includes of
libvirt*.h, there has to be some header exempt from this rule. This patch moves
the relevant part of code from libvirt.h.in to libvirt-common.h.in. Moreover,
since there is no need to have libvirt.h generated anymore, introduce a new
header libvirt.h which was previosly ignored from git and make the common
header ignored and generated instead.
Copy the virtlockd codebase across to form the initial virlogd
code. Simple search & replace of s/lock/log/ and gut the remote
protocol & dispatcher. This gives us a daemon that starts up
and listens for connections, but does nothing with them.

When a RBD volume has snapshots it can not be removed.
This patch introduces a new flag to force volume removal,
VIR_STORAGE_VOL_DELETE_WITH_SNAPSHOTS.
With this flag any existing snapshots will be removed prior to
removing the volume.
No existing mechanism in libvirt allowed us to pass such information,
so that's why a new flag was introduced.

This is a public library, it shouldn't include anything that is
internal. Including the library in it's current state to an example
application fails the preprocessor phase.
virDomainMigrateFinish* APIs were unfortunately designed to return the
pointer to the domain on destination and NULL on error. This looks OK in
normal cases but the same API is also called when we know migration
failed and thus we expect Finish to return NULL even if it actually did
all it was supposed to do without any error. The call is defined to
return nonnull domain pointer over RPC, which means returning NULL will
always result in an error being send. If this was not in fact an error,
the API itself wouldn't set anything to the thread local virError, which
makes the RPC layer come up with it's own "Library function returned
error but did not set virError" error.
This is quite confusing and also hard to detect by the caller. This
patch adds a special error code which can be used to check that Finish
successfully aborted migration.

admin devel files out of specfile.
Library is still being compiled and installed in order to link easily
without any disturbing modifications to the daemon code.
